The Wallaby changeroom after the win over Wales
Australia set out on their European tour with the goal of achieving a Grand Slam in mind, following in the footsteps of the great 1984 side. Things went awry early on, but they ended the tour on a high with a great win over Wales in Cardiff.
Struggling with injuries to key players, and a lack of form, meant that 2009 wasn't a great year for the Wallabies. A backline scattered with youngsters and leadership changing hands a few times aren't great recipes for success either.
They started off well though, beating England at Twickenham then getting the the better of Ireland right up until the final play of the game, as captain Brian O'Driscoll went over for a try that set up the 20-20 draw.
Just like that, the Grand Slam dream was over. A week later they lost to Scotland, 9-8. According to the Australian media, that was the lowest of the low for Australian rugby, and the knives were out as the team took a mauling back home.
In true Aussie spirit though, the players pulled things together and following a good midweek win over Cardiff, the young side triumphed over Wales in one of the more entertaining matches of the past few weeks.
They scored some great tries and silenced the partisan Welsh crowd, with flyhalf Matt Giteau in particular having one of his best matches of the year. Unfortunately he doesn't drink as well as he plays, which you'll see in the clip. Downing drink from the winning trophy, then grimacing in front of the the camera? No Matt, no.
This video shows ten minutes of footage from after the final whistle, as we get to experience what it's like inside the changeroom with the Wallabies. This is a group that for the whole of the previous week were roasted by their media.
You can see what the win means to the players, especially the younger guys who clearly respect and take pride in a victory over the Welsh at such a great venue.
While it's a long vid which shows a few half-naked Australians drinking, it's still an interesting watch that allows us to get to know the players a little better, as well as see what goes on behind the scenes after a good win.
Be prepared for moustaches, champagne, and a Kiwi singing the Australian national anthem.

Nice vid. David Pocock looks like some old classic actor with that tache. They all look pretty funny actually.. especially Kurtley Beale :P
It struck me a few days back that unless 'Movember' suddenly dies off, which I doubt, every November test in the foreseeable future will look like clips from the seventies (eighties?). Not good lol
By FrankyH, at December 02, 2009 11:16 pm
Kind of an awkward way to interview the guys, no?
By pio, at December 02, 2009 11:23 pm
very... very gay
By Anonymous, at December 02, 2009 11:25 pm
^agree
GAY
By Anonymous, at December 02, 2009 11:26 pm
^ homophobic children.
You expect them to ask the players to get their shirts on first?
I thought it was interesting, thanks RD.

James O'connor just looks like a snitch. Not his fault, probably a nice enough kid. ha ha

2.57.....moobs on the left hand side....what a fine sporting physique.....
By Anonymous, at December 02, 2009 11:50 pm
lol^ perv!
FUCK ITS QUADE COOPER AGAIN!!! I HATE THAT GUY!!!!
Was quite a cool insight into the aftergame chillout side of things....more or less the same as a big win for a club team....well apart from the usual guy smoking in the corner....
a few slightly odd angles.....filming up from between knees...and down....

I really cant believe the way they are drinking, I wouldnt have imagined it.
Besides its not like it was winning a big tournament or something like that.
Anyway, cool video, nice to see that pros get hammered too.
By Ricky G, at December 03, 2009 12:30 am
The moustaches are terrible.
By realrugby, at December 03, 2009 12:55 am
just to stop people before they continue ragging on the wallabies and calling them gay etc etc
Anyone taking part in wallaby bashing over this vid has never played in a proper rugby team. Any team at any level who have just played the way they did would celebrate in the same way. Its a great feeling and teams deserve to enjoy it!
By DDK, at December 03, 2009 1:11 am
Is it me or is there a real awkwardness between Giteau and Robbie Dean? Deans looks like one of those embarrassing uncles hanging around.
Big P
By Anonymous, at December 03, 2009 1:20 am
DDK i think people are talking more about the camera thing....i could be wrong...but there isnt much happening in this video that is gay apart from camera angles and quade cooper

Doesn't every 19 year old look like a snitch? hahaha
It's great to see the guys having a good time. Finishing on a high note...no more rugby for a while though :( I wonder what the atmosphere would've been like over at the Wales camp.
And Giteau!! What were you thinking!? No Aussie shudders at beer! hahah
As an aside, looking forward to the Baa Baas game!
By Phil, at December 03, 2009 3:15 am
Pocock is ridiculously jacked for a 21 year old (no homo haha).
Typical rugby changing room from the looks of it to me. Pretty much exactly what it was like on living with the lions.......and no one said gay to that (ok Austin Healey maybe yes).
By Anonymous, at December 03, 2009 3:16 am
Dammit. This reminds me so much of my changeroom. Which bothers me because I love Wales so much. Oh well I guess it just proves that we're all enemies for 80 minutes. After that all mates with a common love for the game.....except for the English :p
By Chris_J, at December 03, 2009 3:37 am
james o'connor is an absolute t***. he looks like a fan thats just run into their changing room and is stupidly excited. overall, gay.
By sam, at December 03, 2009 3:52 am
In a way, it's cool to see done differently...
but was Will Genia actually naked in his interview XD
an attempt to market the game to the laides??
The nathem at the end was sung with no backing, and sounds a lot better than many butchered anthems XD
By vinniechan, at December 03, 2009 3:57 am
Yeah David Pocock is massive.
181cm and 101kg...not the biggest guy but incredibly lean it seems lol.
Mark Chisholm has some guns firing too (According to Pocock, the biggest biceps in the team apparently).

Great video, made me kinda sad as I don't play anymore due to injury and I really miss the atmosphere of a dressing at the end of the season win, lose or draw.
For me it was nice to see pros let their hair down and have fun.
By Canadian Content, at December 03, 2009 4:48 am
I hear ya Canadian Content. I need physio on my shoulder and missed last season. I played in Ottawa. Where did you play?
By Chris_J, at December 03, 2009 4:53 am
Yeah that's the real reason you play, the drinking afterward.
Or am I just an alcoholic?
By Bill, at December 03, 2009 7:31 am
^^^ Lol.
Reminds me of those shirts with "My drinking team has a rugby proglem."
By Anonymous, at December 03, 2009 7:53 am
How built is Pocock for just 21 years old? I didn't look like that until I was 30...
By tank, at December 03, 2009 7:55 am
james o'connor is the play thing
By Anonymous, at December 03, 2009 8:36 am

By Flanker, at December 03, 2009 11:05 am
Great to see Jim Williams getting some wins. Big loss at Munster since he left.

By Ralph, at December 03, 2009 11:40 am
dean and giteau near the start...cringe. genuinely like a scene from the office: Dean = brent, giteau = tim
By Anonymous, at December 03, 2009 12:41 pm
What I took away from the vid (othe minute or so I could stand to watch):
Deans is selling his soul
The wallabies listen to tweenie music
By olwaka, at December 03, 2009 1:53 pm
- They should have taken the camera in there after the Scottish game.
- Feel sorry for that little Guinea lad in the showers.
- Would love to see the Blue Bulls locker room after the Super 14 Final
By Anonymous, at December 03, 2009 2:14 pm
HOW IS THIS GAY? Leave James O'connor alone you jealous idiots hes just a kid and he has already achieved more than any of you will!!!!
By Cameron Maxted, at December 03, 2009 2:22 pm
why do they all use the same moustache and haircut??... those guys need an image adviser
By oktass, at December 03, 2009 4:40 pm
not an aussie but they looked ecstatic and they deserved it i would love to see the reaction if they won the world cup (which i hope doesnt happen) met james o'conner when he had just made his debut at the end of the season for matt burkes testimonioal and he seemed like a down to earth feller that was up for a laugh a couple of years on he is the same congrats aussies
By geordie, at December 03, 2009 5:34 pm
quade:"to make his debut against cardiff,at the millenium stadium"...hmm
By BODisgod, at December 03, 2009 5:44 pm
lol cameron is still sour about the autumn internationals......everyone knows o'conner is doing well in his career and i doubt anyone would not want to be in his shoes....they simply comment on the fact he acts like a bit of a homo on this video....i suppose he is just excited though....
By :), at December 03, 2009 6:16 pm
I don't want to be in his shoes. I'd rather be a rich accountant who doesn't get his brain smashed in every weekend.
By Anonymous, at December 03, 2009 8:29 pm
wats up wit da 80's moustaches lol
By Anonymous, at December 03, 2009 8:45 pm
Wow some of you guys live in a cocoon - the moustaches are for Movember, a charity initiative that involves you growing a moustache for the month of November.
It's only taken you a month to notice. Nice going team.
On a serious note - thank god it's now December.
By FrankyH, at December 03, 2009 8:59 pm
This is pretty much standard what goes on in a dressing room. In any team sport. Amateur or professional. In any country. Pretty timid really compared to my university games.
Some of you act like you've never seen a bloke with his shrit off before. And are uncomfortable with it. lol.
Those moustaches are piss weak by the way. They've had a month to unleash them and thats the best they've got? Looks like they've been trimming them or something. haha.
By Geotech, at December 04, 2009 12:29 am
@ Oktass...
Image adviser... you kidding, there rugby players not soccer players
By Unknown, at December 04, 2009 3:34 am
"Bill said...
Yeah that's the real reason you play, the drinking afterward.
Or am I just an alcoholic?"
You must not be doing it right. You're supposed to drink before the game, too. Preferably the entire night before. Then show up to the pitch 20 minutes late while the other side, who drove and hour and a half to play you, has been there practicing for 45 minutes. Proceed to vomit during warm-up lap to the delight of everyone who showed up to watch the game. Then win the match and drink some more.
...or maybe our whole team were just alcoholics...or in college...or both.
By Mike, at December 04, 2009 6:38 am
Ya know, Ya Know, Ya Know Ya know, Ya Know, Ya Know Ya know, Ya Know, Ya Know Ya know, Ya Know, Ya Know Ya know, Ya Know, Ya Know Ya know, Ya Know, Ya Know
Cool video. Stop abusing, exactly the reason why we never get to see much behind the scenes stuff. Idiots like you just criticise the shit out of it.
