Stade Francais trounce league leaders Toulouse in Paris

While having a look around for some of the best clips to show you this week, there's a try that was scored in the Top 14 by Stade Francais against Toulouse, finished by Mathieu Bastareaud, that definitely needs to be seen.

Stade Francais hosted table topping Toulouse in what turned out to be a surprise result with the home side trouncing the league leaders 31-3. Tries were scored for Stade by Julien Arias, James Haskell, and Mathieu Bastareaud.

Julien Dupuy slotted six kicks at goal as the mid table side, dressed in their infamous pink leopard skin ensemble, romped home for their biggest win of the season, allowing them to stay in the hunt for a play-off place.

The Parisians were down to fourteen men for ten minutes when Ollie Phillips was carded after what looked like some play-acting by Cedric Heymans, but it didn't stop them and after a great counter attack from deep by Toulouse, Stade did the same right back to produce the try of the game, finished by Bastareaud.

What a clip, some of the best rugby i've seen, some amazing handling and interplay beween the backs, exemplified by a great try by stade.

quick vocabulary point to avoid confusion

if you're gonna say 'stade' mention if you're talking about Stade Toulousain or Stade Francais

because you brits say 'Stade' refering to Paris, ie. stade Francais, whereas in France, the name 'Stade' is more associated to Toulouse's Stade Toulousain

otherwise good game to watch, especially the ball beeing carried onto the pitch by a very attractive topless model ;)

Lucky devils are getting Paul Warick next season aswell. He's been great here in Munster and I'm sure he'll make himself felt in Stade Francais.

Some good play in there, though Tolouse killed themselves with that first try, shocking pass.
That second try was good, very good play from the no 10.

it was a poor match with no suspense. Without Servat,Medard,Skrela,Kelleher
and Albecete Toulouse is not the same team.

What is the problem with Haskell and Bastaraud celebration!!!!!

Last year they got trash by Toulouse, aka LE Stade, and this year they were huge underdog. They were absolutely no "showboating" in their reaction.

The game was played in a good spirit but clearly Toulouse had a day off and especially Clerc.

Meanwhile Guazzini gave, this time, the 79,000 crowds more than a one breast show as an opener. So kind from him to let the Lido girls getting some extra work in these times of recession ;-)

@ Luxi, the person who wrote this article (moi) isn't a Brit. Secondly, Stade Toulouse are known as Toulouse, whereas Stade Francais are never known as just Francais. So that's the thinking.

SH and home nations should unite against France and their big spending clubs and only trade between eachother. No other league comes close to the pay packets of this league. It's almost like comparing the Premier leagues salarys to Coca cola league 2.

Actually not really.....the game was full of hand ball mistakes and Racing-Toulon was far worth unless you are keen on drop goals....

I agree if players were a commodity unfortunatelly they are not (as far as I know).

Cheer up Big Bucks....the French clubs are slowly heading for bankruptcy with very few exceptions, since the on going salary increases have grown far above their expected revenue.....So the Frogs will soon go back to some more restrictive offers.

All the cash in the french league gets you is not much more than the magners league; racing v toulon 15-12 with about 6 drop goals and thats it;
The other one montpellier v perpgnan 12-12. So people can give out all they like but for the most part scores wise they are nearly identical. Lokk at the HCup as well; Leinster Munster Ulster still in there as are Perpignan Toulouse Biarritz and Toulon.

Nothing between these two great leagues except a mountain of cash.

Haskell and Bastareaud's celebrations are justified by the fact this is their biggest game of the season, Paris has not beaten Toulouse since a year and a half, and last season Toulouse humiliate them 0-29 in the Stade de France. So I think they can celebrate (especially Haskell's try who gives them a bonus point).

And french clubs aren't heading for bankrupt at all, except small ones like Montauban last year and Bourgoin now because they are too small cities and can't be competitive.

How can Beauxis not be playing for the french national team?? At least when trinh-duc is injuried he should be starting Number 10 for France.

I only hardly can imagine that Traille is as good as Beauxis at 10!

Beauxis went through a very very rough patch for a couple of years, now he is playing quite well again and if he keeps it up, he could be TrinhDuc official sub for the RWC.

Not only this, I am afraid but the slowly ending of the "droit à l’image collectif", which in simple term is a tax cut implemented in France back in 2004 and slowly been removed during end 2010 (I believed). This allowed clubs to treat up to 30 per cent of a player’s income as “image rights”, meaning not to be imposed on social security or employment taxes.

Sure, some new inventive solution will be found but until then the clubs will feel the effect if they are still intending to keep such salary in the Top 14.

Already without this, Brive and Stade Francais are heading for problem, after Bourgoin.....not every club is supported by President such as the one of Toulon or Racing and local subventions are decreasing

Anyhow let see.....

Beauxis should probably be heading to the WC if he remains consistant.

TrinhDuc remains N#1, then I have Beauxis with good old Skrela as possible replacement.

I believe Wisniewski might have a chance (still do not know about his real level) but not for the WC

Still not the most impressive n#10 seen at les Bleus

Haskell and Bastareaud can be justified because they are playing their last cards before 6N selections and their future participation for the RWC.

I have no problem with basteareud celebration, he has been a face of France and 'the next big thing' however Haskell is just a cock and a forward and should know better than to celebrate like that!!!

As for football, come off it, everyone knows ANY football team is full of nancys!!! No matter what country and to be totally honest it appears as though the african bunch who represent the poorer areas of Africa are the only ones who don't dive like bitches when minimal contact occurs!!!!

^^ Bastareaud is incredibly fast for a big guy like him, so what is wrong with that? Does everybody got to look fit like SBW to please you ? If he loose pounds, i believe he'll loose powerfulness too, and that would be sad considering how hugely powerful he is! Powerfulness and pace, that's what you expect from a n°13, so IMO Bastareaud is perfect how he is, even if he's not as fit as you'd like miss Nr.7...

the highlights as usual dont tell the whole story, the first half was quite sloppy by both sides

that individual effort by beauxis was superb but he needs to work on his passing skills

I've watched this match with Brtitish commentators, and that was soooo boring compared with French ones :/
But the good thing is that they're not biased at all, and they have a very sharp eye, noticing every faults players commit!

That was a very good match from Paris, especially by the forwards and by Beauxis (as a proof, this amazing self-pass leading to Bastareaud's try).

Toulouse probably had a lack of experience with its 9 and 10 (they're 22 and 20 yo), which may have implied a lack of impact on their forwards.

@Greiffel: as Luxi mentionned, when you say "le Stade" in France, it mainly refers to Toulouse. You say that Stade Francais are never known as just "Francais", and you're more than right : they're NEVER named this way! ;) They would more be called "Paris", than just "Stade".
And even if they're older than Toulouse, Stade Toulousain reputation is much greater than Stade Français one.

And last thing about salary explosion in Top 14 : that's right, and it may lead to some bankruptcy, but this is mainly due to two of the recenlty promoted clubs, Racing Metro 92 and Toulon, which are ready to offer billions to hire a well-known player. But on the other side, clubs such as ASM (Clermont) and Toulouse are reputed to have some kind of inner "salary cap", which may hinder that behaviour ; as an example, Toulouse didn't make any excessive counter-offer to Bayonne, about Byron Kelleher's contract.

The first post said "what a try by bastareaud" - no brainer really (nice support play), the first post should have said what magnificent play by the 10 to get the majorly over-rated bastareaud to score!
One the of first scenes of bastareaud is him completely missing the ball when it bounced oddly - granted it would have been very difficult to catch, but surely the way everyone raves on about bastareaud, I would have thought the ball would have been in his hands and sailing for an amazing try?!?! As stated - HUGELY OVER-RATED!!! He was owned by Tindall!
