Don't Stop Believeing - the Brian O'Driscoll collection

Brian O'Driscoll has always aimed high. The Leinster, Ireland, and British & Irish Lions legend has for many years been regarded as one of the finest centers the game has seen. While today he may not be quite the player he was a few years back, he still poses a threat and has done some fantastic things on the rugby field over the years.

His immediate goal will be staying fit and maintaining the type of good form required to make the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa in roughly 6 months time. There's already plenty of talk about whether he will make the squad, and if he'll still pose the same kind of threat he used to.

Besides the tour in June, O'Driscoll has also set his sights on making it to the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. He will only be 32 then, and it will be a remarkable achievement of four World Cups for the star center.

Speaking at the World Cup draw in London earlier this month, the man known as BOD spoke frankly about his aspirations.

"You’re sitting there and you’re getting nervous (about the draw) and then you’re thinking ‘I hope I’ll have a reason to get nervous’, in that I hope I’m involved in it," said O’Driscoll, who made his World Cup debut as a 20-year-old in 1999.

"If in three years’ time if I still have the wherewithal to play at this level, form included, then it would be fantastic to play in a fourth World Cup but it’s a long way away."

This compilation of O'Driscoll in action is a great showcase of some of the finer moments througout his career. Whether you're a fan currently or not, there's no doubt that in the past, at the top of his game, he was the best center in world rugby.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 24, 2008 11:29 pm

  • BOD. One of the best centers of all time along with Umaga in my opinion

Awful song anyway, it just doesnt go with whats going on in the video.

I would like to see something like this about david campese or cristian cullen, basically older players that information and videos about them are not easy to find

    Go on gavin

  • Great vid, agree with ricol though, seems the music is a bit off...

There's another video on youtube, practically all the same clips in almost the same order with some snow patrol in the back round.

Heres the link if anyone would want to check that one out..

  • O'Driscoll was world class in 2000 and 2001 when he was young and eager.

Following that he appeared to let it go to his head and also seems to have a weight problem.

To those who mentioned Umaga, please, he wasn't half the player of BoD at his peak, if you don't believe me check out the game between Ireland and NZ in 2001 where a young BoD tears him to shreds over and over agan.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 1:16 am

  • O'Driscoll could've been the greatest player of all time but instead he'll have to settle for being an Irish great.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 1:17 am

  • Agree with Ricol,
Not the right song for the video.

You can blame the Series Finale of "The Sopranos" for the re-surgence of this song, and it over-use.

Great song from one of the greatest mullet connections (outside of a Sydney league team) in rock history.

However, seems every athlete out there wants it on their mix tape.

My bitching about the song choice aside, great compilation of BOD's class.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 4:29 am

  • @Jonathan .. "Not bad, but this Frank Bunce compilation is better"

Both great players in their prime but I'm also inclined to give Bunce the edge because so much of his best work was against the toughest international defences.
But lotsa nice stuff from O'Driscoll, although that music sure is crap.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 9:12 am

  • quality video, i forgot has brilliant he is. why'd someone say 'i don't see the point of this video?'. what's the point of any of them you muppet

  • The song is perfect you fools!

People have started writing BOD off "he's over the hill" etc and the video is about believing in him.

Great compilation, but a couple of BOD beauties left out

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 11:06 am

  • that was a great vid! hope he makes the lions next year, i'm sure he's gonna rise to the occasion and prove just what a great player he is

there are a couple of screamers that you've missed out on though from the 2001 Lions tour outside the tests, he was tearing defences apart time after time and it was wonderful rugby to watch

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 1:00 pm

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 6:10 pm

  • bod is the only irish player that is admired here in argentina, considering the great rivalry between both countries in 1999, 2003 and 2007 world cups and the disputes with ronan o'gara.
his world class is unique and i hope he continues displaying this great rugby for a long time

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 6:39 pm

  • What a surprise that a Munster fan is proclaiming a Munster player to be better than a Leinster player.
Does anyone have any links to videos for what O'Driscoll did against NZ in 2001, cause I wud like to see that.
    Undoubted quality player.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 9:10 pm

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 25, 2008 11:07 pm

  • BOD is god, hope he stays fit and free of injury for the next few years!! i think there is still alot more to come from him..

he has to be the best centre in the world...

and correct me if i'm wrong doesnt earls play full back.... mafi and tipoki play centre... get a grip ragga muffin!!

    Long live BOD!!

  • oh and great song, journey are immense!!! Lol

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2008 1:41 am

  • he is still a great player but his lack of good quality teamates is the main reason for his decline in performances.....

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2008 2:01 am

  • An absolute Irish hero, regardless of peoples opinions on how others compared.
    BOD=Legend
Would have been good to see his try against france years ago when ireland lost BOD never gave up and ran through there ten head on and beat the 15 for an awesome try

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2008 2:10 am

  • does anyone think that the last play where he passes to himself is pure genius? cos when i saw that it blew me away although he didnt score but seems to me that everyone is concentrating on other stuff. I'm not an Irish fan but for all those who thinks BOD aint all that, lets see if u can do what he does even on a pitch full of 12 year old kids...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2008 8:17 am

  • Great in his day but a long long long way past it. The deluded Irish will still think he's the greatest centre in the world when he's 64.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2008 2:37 pm

  • a true master and legend of all times!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2008 4:02 pm

most over rated player of all time more like it

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 26, 2008 8:28 pm

  • "doos" your a dickhead, how could you say something like that after watching that video?

BOD is one of the all time greats.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 27, 2008 9:18 am

  • 2:19 he must of been running fucking fast because it was rupeni caucau(the fastest rugby player before HABANA)that was chasing him. But my favourite try was the 2nd one against the wasps who i support argh! but it was a great try.

By Blogger arranr, at December 27, 2008 9:38 am

  • 2:19 he must of been running fucking fast bedcause he was getting chased by RUPENI CAUCAU the fastest rugby player before HABANA. the best try was the 2nd one he scored against the wasps the team i support argh! but still a great try.

  • Anyone know where I can get his try against France in the 6N from a few years ago in Lansdowne ? It was 2005 i think and Benoit Baby made his debut by headbutting BOD in a ruck ?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 27, 2008 4:42 pm

  • His form seems to be on the bounce. He's still the prime of explosive strength and if he stays injury free with proper conditioning, he might be back to top as soon as the coming 6N.

By Blogger vinniechan, at December 27, 2008 5:42 pm

  • one of the greatest players however he was ruined by the Irish set up by being constantly played when he wasnt fully fit its a shame but if he was a kiwi or Ozzie he would probably still be the best in the world he hadnt even reached his peak before his hamstrings got fucked. Ireland overused him because they had no one else for shame.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 27, 2008 7:56 pm

  • it makes we very sad watching the video, almost brought a tear to my eye! As it says "dont stop believing"

i think he has one more shot at it in this years six nations, if we dont see the brilliance again, its a sad thing to say, but maybe its time to step down for ireland.

Great player! even if he was from Leinster haha

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 27, 2008 9:28 pm

  • Does anyone else think that if he was in any of the top nations he would be unstoppable? It must be hard being worldclass when your playing for Ireland

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 27, 2008 10:45 pm

  • He should never have been forced to play through injury - then this loss of form would never have happened.

    He's coming back though

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 28, 2008 2:17 pm

  • If he didn't act like a bloody flanker all the time he'd be in much better condition now. He always give his all and put his body on the line to his detriment.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 28, 2008 5:39 pm

  • aye but kind of hard not to when our flankers are so bloody poor at making the breakdown

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 28, 2008 6:29 pm

  • wallace s one of the finest flankes on the planet and thats coming from a leinsterman

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 29, 2008 4:19 pm

  • The song choice in this occasion is good, as many people have stopped believing. People talk about BOD for the Lions, he hasn't got his Irish spot nailed down yet! Despite his form of late , he is possibly Ireland's greatest ever rugby player. Would love to see him take a few months off nest season and come back at close to 100% fitness, and maybe then the playing at 70% fitness rumour will go away.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 31, 2008 1:29 am

  • as a compolation, it is heavy on the recent and light on the past - and up to 06 6N his form was excellent.

That was the one Ireland should have won. He played 300 of 400 minutes of that 6N and Ireland hardly conceeded a try in that 300 mins. In the 100 he was off, they leaked big time. e.g. against italy when he came off, 2 tries in 5 mins. the lunatics in charge of the asylum.
Against france match winning try down his channel in injury time.

His positioning and more generally defence is excellent. A video of his defence and his lines would actually be far better for genuine rugby fans - his tackle on POC in the RDS 2 xmas's ago, when the ball popped up vertically - perfect rugby moment. How often does a 5ft-10 centre cream a lock?
His lines have often been far too clever for his playing partners - if only they got him - literally!

However, he has come back too soon from that hamstring. He should not have come back at end of last Magners season - hamstrings need a long time to recover - should only have come back after the autumns. one more pop of the hamstring and he's popped.

Leinster, put this combo together and let them play deep, from 10:
Nacewa, o dricsoll, darcy ,fitzy (wing), horgan, Kearney (at full back!!!)

He may come back on form, with better backs coaching and nacewa at 10.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 31, 2008 2:30 am

  • wow, good video!BOD had some real pace back when he was younger!
i think he'd make a good 12 these days.he doesn't have the pace any more, but he's strong and runs good lines, and he's very solid in defence

By Anonymous Anonymous, at December 31, 2008 1:40 pm

  • im a irish fan and i hate some of these pricks ur insultin our captin u give him no souport if u were real irish ud get behind him and the squad and stop tryin to pick every fuckin munster player for every position now do us all a favor get behind your captin as all 4 provinces and sopourt him and his side as they go agenst france when u put on that green jersey u stop been Leinster Munster Ulster and Connacht and start been irish and GET BEHIND THE CAPTIN FOR ONCE IN UR CUNTING LIVES!!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at January 01, 2009 9:43 pm

  • Great video but as a few posts have mentioned above, unfortunately it only shows the tries he himself scored.

BOD's real strength came from his all round game (bar his kicking). His ability and will to set up other players, his super defence and his work in the rucks are what really set him apart from other centers around the world.

He'll be in the squad for the next world cup no doubt and possibly the first 15 and the best of luck to him if he gets it (although I'd love to see a Fitzgerald-Earls partnership developed and ready to run by that stage!)

An Leinster and Irish great ... and that's from a Munster fan!

  • Possibly one of the best centres the game has ever seen. I think if he hadent been speared in new zealand the series might have gone quite differently
