Super 14 Pick of the Week - Round 9

As another jam packed weekend of rugby action kicked off in Auckland this morning, we’ve got another serving of our Super 14 Pick of the Week for you, featuring some of the better tries from last weekend’s games.

Starting with a nice Red’s try that’s finished by Quade Cooper, this week we see a mixed bag of skills on show. The little inside flick by former League player Mark McLindon came off brilliantly.

In the same match Kenrick Lynn got on the end of some excellent play by Daniel Bowden and Jason Shoemark, finishing off a great try for the Highlanders.

The Blues tore apart the travelling Lions in Auckland, scoring from all ends of the park, as seen by some of their tries in this compilation. Henno Mentz did score for the Lions though, after a lovely piece of individual skill by Earl Rose.

The rapid Jongi Nokwe flew down the wing for the Cheetahs to score in their big win over the Sharks, but take note of the ever impressive number right Ryan Kankowski, who actually kept up with the speedster, but only managed to grab his shorts in his attempt to prevent the try.

One of the individual tries of the season so far though came from Stormers center Jean De Villiers, who ran through the Brumbies defence single headedly from 55 out.

Kabamba Floors brings an end to the Sharks, and this compilation, with his neat finishing in Bloemfontein. Enjoy the weekend.

Some class tries there. SH rugby looks like a completely different game to watch. No better or worse (don't want to start that discussion) just different. Quicker 1/2 man rucks and more running rugby. Less structure maybe but more skill.

Frst try is wonderful. Andthe jean de villier's too. as a NH i got to admit that's an other level. i was disappointed by the previous rounds, but that's highly improving weeks after weeks. Top14 and Guinesspremiership got to learn from how rugby is played in the S14

Like the SH rugby, but I honestly think the reffing is a little loose sometimes, guys falling over the place in rucks. Perhaps people desire the continuity over strict adherence to the laws, but then why have them?

Why not just appreciate the rugby for what it is rather than continuously bring in the north v south argument?

Some of the best individual tries I've seen for a while in that segment, many thanks RD, you are my go-to for up-to-date rugby vids. Keep 'em coming!

P.S. Can't wait to see the Lions squad Geeks picks on Tuesday!

The Gloucester/Cardiff Blues EDF Cup Final today had more awesome tries than all of these games together. Pulsating match, and as a Tigers fan I can't wait until our game against them.

SH supporters are arrogant as FUCK, i mean seriously open your tiny minds for once. Cardiff blues vs Gloucester was better than any S14 game ive seen this season except maybe the odd chiefs match, the running rugby from cardiff was amazing.

lol, are you dreaming? Didn't you watch yesterdays games?

The Tahs v the Force was an error strewn borefest and the Crusaders and Sharks game was National League One standard. Full of missed chances, I lost count of the number of knock ons after they hit 40 between the two sides.

And for every 50 dropgoals Steyn attempts, he hits 1.

national sides dont affect national leagues. if they did, argentina and brazil would have the greatest football leagues on earth.

the refs r not great. some of the ruckin was suspect, when bowden made his break the tailgunner on from the opposition linout was being pushed out of the way by his opposite no. The condition in the northern hemisphere dictate a different style of rugby. for the middle part of the saeason the weather is to bad 2 play open rugby so a different style has emerged.

I dont think we can blame the weather here in the north much longer, especially considering the south island of NZ has much the same weather conditions as Wales. However, the gap in the standard of club rugby between the hemisphires is closing. I firmly believe teams like Munster and the Blues would take down the majority of Super 14 sides. The biggest difference in the ways the game is played on the two sides of the equator is simple; refereeing. The SH refs favour a flowing, free game where many offences are penalised. In the North the refs are more to the letter, which can strangle the game, but it keeps the game fair. When these differences are transferred to the international stage the result is often controversy. The quicker these inconsistencies are ironed out the quicker the game will progress.

The Brazil, Argentina argument is stupid, and displays ignorance of rugby.
Barazil and Argentina's best players play in Europe, hence even though they have greta international teams, their club football suffers.
In the SOuth Australia and NZ will simply not cap any player who doesn't play in the S14 and SA will only make the odd exception to the rule.
This means that even though players go up north, we only pick players in our domestic comp.
Which is so good that even though we lose plaers to the northern clubs, who we then refuse to pick,we still dominate international rugby. It's because we produce better players and play at a higher tempo.
Cardiff and Gloucster would get their arses handed to them on a plate.
Leigh Halpenny, jesus christ, he'd be considered average at best down south.
