Stirling Mortlock hit on Sonny Bill Williams - Thats the way the big boys do it
We've had a number of requests for this bone-jarring hit from the Barbarians match against the Wallabies in Sydney a few weeks back. As always, Sonny Bill Williams making an appearance in a big rugby union match was surrounded by hype and speculation. Many people questioned his ability, and he no doubt was a prized target for the opposition players.
Stirling Mortlock chopped the League superstar down to size early on with this great tackle.
At the end of the match Sonny Bill apparently thanked Mortlock for the sore ribs, to which the Wallaby captain replied "That's the way the big boys do it. "
"He seems like a good bloke and a very funny character," Williams said later. "But I'd love to come back here in a few years' time and show him how I do it."
"I know I am going to have my critics and they are going to come out and bag me but I know that there is definitely a lot of improvement in my game and hopefully in another 10 months you will see a different player."
"I knew there was a lot of pressure on me and I knew that a lot of people wanted to see me get pumped but that's cool," he said.
Williams did show a few touches of class, even getting the better of Mortlock on a couple of occasions, but it was the Aussie center who came out on top overall.

He knew he got smaaaashed when he got up. He is solid but Mortlock would eat him alive. Id like to see them go at it in the ring. SBW fancies himself as a boxer! Now that would be worth seeing.

Thought SBW actually dealt with it well - and dealt with his night well.
Really seemed to enjoy himself. And took his stripes with good humour.

Hospital ball from McCallister leaves Williams open to a tackle as he has to catch it high leaving the mid rift open to a wrap.
Technically good tackle thats about it.
Williams even gets up without a bother.
Jamie Roberts showed Mortlock how the big boys do it last autumn when he fracturd his skull in a head clash with him and played for an extra 15 minutes while Mortlock wimped off straight away.

I think everyone's overstated the happenings of SBW and how everyone has a grduge against him.
I doubt Mortlock had any ill intent.

let me reiterate Mortlock is not a wimp id prob have been out cold after said head clash but i dont go around telling my opponents "this is how we do it with the BIG BOYS" everytime i catch them eith a tackle.
He just sounded like a total gimp.
But i dont know him personnally so he could be the coolest bloke around for all i know.
Just my opinion which is always open to scrutiny.

no im not drunk yet but im Irish so you can count on it later, i have a match first and after i will get o b l i t e r a t e d!!
The Irishness also explains my bad english, if you want i can just comment in gaeilge which is no problem, but i think the mispelled english is a bit easier for everyone to understand than the Gaeilge!!

Well, it was a hospital pass. Reminded me of the same kind of pass to Matt Rogers from Roff in 2003 when he got ball and Josh Lewsey at the same time.

Sonny has had bigger hits like that on many occasions. And he's certainly put on bigger hits than that.
Mortlock is lucky the roles weren't reversed, and he wasn't in Sonnys position while playing against him in a League game. Because he'd really know what a hit was if that were to happen.
Text book tackle in the face of a hospital pass. Nothing special.
