Wasps thrash Gloucester at Kingsholm

Gloucester’s poor run of form continued this weekend as they got convincingly beaten 35-6 by Wasps in front of their home crowd at Kingsholm.

Scrumhalf Joe Simpson and flyhalf Dave Walder combined to give centre Dominic Waldouck an easy try in the first half as he glided through the hapless Gloucester defenders.

Wasps managed to hold off any attempt at a comeback by the home side as they picked up their bonus point after scoring three tries in the second half. Mark Van Gisbergen scored twice, with captain Serge Betsen also scoring under the posts.

Gloucester’s injured World Cup winner, Mike Tindall, says it was an embarrassing result.

“I felt embarrassed. We made too many individual errors and too many mistakes,” he said.

"I feel sorry for Brushy (Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath) because we made too many individual errors and mistakes.

"Whenever we did something good, we then went and did something stupid to undo it. After such a good start to the season with the win over Bath, things just aren't going right.

"It's not a lack of work or commitment, but we need to own up when we aren't doing things well. This hasn't just been going on for one or two weeks, it is three or four now."

  • Someone really should learn Vainikolo how to tackle and tell him that defending is part of the job of a rugbyman. He's a catastrophy

  • Ne defense at all from Gloucester...

  • Glos defence is completely disorganised at the moment and they're struggling with catching the ball. To be honest Vainikolo was one of the better players on th field, put in a few decent runs.

Wasps were fairly average and didn't seem to get out of 2nd gear, but did what they needed to.

  • Betsen is still an incredible gladiator...

  • Poor tackle from Robinson, getting bumped by a scrum half half his size.

  • Nice to see Spencer on-field again, even if it isn't in the best of circumstances.

  • very bad defence - wasps didn't even look that hot tbh... doesn't bode well for them reaching the playoffs..,.

  • Can anybody tell me what's up with Gloucester? It just mermerizes me, they have big names, good coaches and quite some stars in the backs(Tindall, Robinson, Sharples...) but they just lack attitude to play this game. I hope they put that right - Nothing worst tahan an "underachieveres" tag to carry with.

  • From a proud englishman and GP fan, this year the standard is pretty appalling. Even the better sides like Irish will struggle in the HC becasue the quality of their regular opposition is so poor.

  • As a Gloucester ST holder, I was there and all i can say is that i was very disappointed, we just couldn't breach wasps' game line.
It seems to be a lack of self-belief, coupled with the decrease in toughness of our team ( the return of Jake Boer is brilliant, he should help us return to winning ways). It also doesn't help that Simpson-daniel is playing O.Centre where he is simply to small and frail, whereas Tom Voyce is being played as a Fullback ( which he is NOT!!) .in a nutshell, without Tindal, Hazell and Morgan we are useless.

Finally, it's a shame that this video lacked Akapusi Qera's 1st half tackle ( classic south sea-islander bone crunching tackle)

  • Tindall is a riot. How many games has he played for Gloucester in the last two seasons. He seems to be living off his 2003 World Cup winning salary enhancement.

The backs defence was very poor although I think Lawson was out in the centres for a couple of the tries. Time to start preventing quick ball for the opposition I think.

  • Gloucester players - you are a disgrace! Just look at the Shed - you have got empty seats for a match against Wasps - the public are telling you something! Pull yourselves together! Wasps didn't even need to play very well..

  • Basically 10+ players were shipped at the end of the season and the board to an age to get rid of the coach. When they did Redpath was promoted to head coach and given a short preseason to work out the job and prep the players. There weren't enough players of quality brought in to replace the defecit (and one failed a medical). There's a load of players injured, no real depth to the squad. Confidence is low and basic skill levels gone to pot.

Otherwise all is rosy at Kingsholm.....

  • ok, after this, err, performance, can NH posters *please* give it a rest on the "poor defence" comments on SH try highlights clips? For a little while, maybe?
