Scotland brush aside Fiji at Murrayfield

Scotland coach Andy Robinson got his career at the helm under way with a comfortable 23-10 win over the Fijians at Murrayfield on Saturday.

It was coach Robinson’s first match back in Test rugby after the disastrous end to his England coaching stint three years ago. He replaced Frank Hadden in June, and couldn’t have asked for a better start after the comfortable win over the dangerous Fijians.

"Very, very satisfied; I thought, the first 35 minutes, we were in complete control," said Robinson.

Phil Godman kicked 13 points, while tries were scored by Johnnie Beattie and Graeme Morrison. Fiji scored a try of their own just before the halftime interval through Vereniki Goneva.

"They came back into the game and they got that opportunity just before half-time, which is a little bit frustrating, because it was the first time that they looked dangerous on our line," said Robinson.

"That's what Test rugby's about, to put more points on the opposition when you've got the pressure on.

"We coughed up too many balls. We just made a few too many errors, gave a few too many penalties away - easy penalties to give away, which gave back the control to Fiji.

"These are lessons that we've got to learn. This is the first step so we are not going to get carried away, there is a lot to improve on and the guys understand that," he said.

Scotland has tough matches against Australia and Argentina coming up over the next few weeks.

Good match for Scotland , north has nothing to be ashamed about , south don´t get so cocky ..... you haven´t won anything yet ... ain´t nothing between all 3 teams down there , and as you can see you can´t come up here and expect to win , hope for some great mathces to come ... Wrong on both accounts, well not that you were there, obviously.... or maybe you weren't (stands were pretty empty).

Ok, I understand Scotland were missing their flair players, well the 2 Evans bros, but Fiji were poor, and in no way was that a good game. I'd rather take a bristle brush to my manhood than watch that tripe again.

And yes Anon, Ireland couldn't beat the 3N wooden spooners but every single rugby fan (with common sense and not some nationalistic ignorance) knows the 3N comprises the 3 best teams in the world. I think Ireland were good value for scrapping the draw. If Ireland played France and Wales 3 times a year every year we'd have a higher level too, but throw in Italy, Scotland and England to the mix and the level drops (no offence IT and Sc, Eng can take a jump).

Next week will restore the proper order, NZ over Eng, Aus over Scot (both by a lot), can't remember who Fra, Wales and SA play and Ire over Fiji. Nuff said.

"Eng can take a jump" yeah onlt they can...no one else but them. Its not possible for any other nation to improve! What a D!ck.
Anyway, I'm not sure if U watched the games at the weekend but the only teams who actually played ANY decent rugby were Scotland, Ireland, France and (actually Italy). England and Wales were both Effin sh!t and are looking in dire straights, unless they pull their finger out!
As a Scotland supporter I was encouraged tbh, seeing it was the first match with a new coach. Looking alot better than the England coach ha ha!! Scotland look powerful, aggressive and they didn't look like they would be easily beaten by the Auz or Arg teams that had played so far.
England didnt deserve to win. Wales were lucky not to lose. Ireland were pretty damn fortunate to get a draw. Italy battled but still lost. France got a great win. of the home nation only Scotland got a comfortable win...and it could have been MUCH more comfortable. Yet on the BBC all you hear about are "stodgy affair" at Murratfield and all these -VE comments. It Effin BS! Why do we always have to but up with these english and wannabe english commentators, spewing verbal crap when we watch rugby on the BBC, I digress. Scotland, best of home nations so far!

Give ROG's determination to lose the second test for the Lions and his strange decision to go for a cross kick from a penalty, instead of kicking the points, in the first half with Ireland down 10-6 and only 35 mins on the clock.....one has to wonder whether ROG has bets on the game or somehow involved in an international betting sydicate. He is known to like a flutter....

Ireland were happy with the draw, Australia looked disappointed. That my friends is the difference between winners and losers. Ireland should change their attitude, especially when playing at home.

dr, you seem to have misread me, or I you, you seem to think I'm backing England (I'm Irish, no chance) to improve. Take a jump means they're shit and deserve to get beat, not they can take a jump up the rankings. I want a better Scotland and Italy, screw England relying on a coach for what he did on the field and no experience.

I did watch the games and for all Scotland's poss they should've won by a lot more. Fiji were incredibly bad. It was comfortable in the sense that they weren't threatened.

Bazza, Ireland weren't happy with the draw, but if you're down 7 points with a minute to go, you're not likely to have 2 scoring chances. Thats why they can be content with the draw.If they had lost the lead and conceded a draw and were happy with it I'd agree with you.

Why no forward pass? Cuz the refs ahve favoured the northern teams this november.
Southern players get carded penalised and banned for things northern players get applauded for.
Forward, pass but it's ok, cuz Scotland really want to win to show the southerners they can playr rugby. So sure hold them to a lower standard no problem.
Sure the Fijian would have been carded for Lamont's second tackle on the Fijian winger, but it's ok, cuz he's Scottish.
But if carter head high tackles ban him! For a month! Can't have great players running around, gotta ban em!
