Joe Van Niekerk yellow carded for double high tackle

After a few days without updates, Rugbydump is back online today and will get updates rolling again within the next few days, starting with this pretty amusing clip from the Top 14.

Last weekend Clermont hosted Toulon in what turned out to be a severe hiding from the home side as they ran out 39-3 victors at the Stade Marcel Michelin.

They ran in five tries against a Toulon side lacking direction, with flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson missing penalties and eventually leaving the field at halftime.

His replacement Sebastien Fauque kicked a dropgoal, but that was all Toulon could muster as Clermont scored 29 unanswered points in the second half.

Matters were made worse as Toulon captain Joe Van Niekerk was yellow carded for committing what can only be described as two high tackles.

First he pulled fullback Anthony Floch down by the neck, then clothes-lined winger Napolioni Nalaga.

It's hard to tell which offense the ref sent him to the cooler for, but both high tackles would have comfortably earned him ten minutes on the sideline.

Dirty, yet amusing for some reason.

Nobbie Nock the commentator is hilarious. 'Surely that's a red card'. And he's just pissing himself laughing the whole time. Forget player tributes, we need more commentator tributes.

Nalaga goes down very easy! And Floch isn't hit that hard, as Redron said!

Lazy tackling by Big Joe, sure, but there's no real force behind it. Yellow seems harsh.

This commentator is a shocker, is he the same bloke that referred to Wilkinson and "Wilkie"? What a nightmare, also that pass which Jonny threw wasnt the best as it didnt go to hand but a bit harsh to call it dreadful?!?!!

seems there's been a lot of hollywood in this vid.
But JvN's tackles are awful. Even if they didn't really do much harm (except for Floch's self esteem or reputation) they COULD have been pretty dangerous as he clearly wanted to chop 2 heads off in one wrestling combo.
Another thing i can't bear and which is spreading in rugby today, coming straight from soccer influence along with badly acting/diving for penalties, is all this looooong congratulation time after a try.

Fucking hilarious. Just sort of swiped once with each arm. Looked really lazy...

For the guys saying the Frogs were acting up, I can see where you're coming from, but at the same time, whenever I've taken any contact with the throat, it's a real shock and leaves you out of breath and stunned for a bit.

The commentators (SIMON, although he wasn't commentating at the time)are the biggest wankers. They always moan at what players do wrong and laugh like school girls.

Pathetic.

The last confrontations between these two teams were great (top14 2008 final) so i hope it will be another time.

I know its off topic, but since someone mentioned it, aren't NZ No.1 in the world. Also, SA beat NZ 3 times last season, not 4, which NZ have done many times to SA.

I think a yellow because it is clearly 2 high tackles one after the other, so really its a 'dont be stupid, have a yellow card' thing.

In terms of their ferocity, i dont think either was particularly bad, i think the first looked worse although i didnt really make out any throat contact.... but neither of them on their own would deserve any more than a penalty.
