Joe Van Niekerk yellow carded for double high tackle
After a few days without updates, Rugbydump is back online today and will get updates rolling again within the next few days, starting with this pretty amusing clip from the Top 14.
Last weekend Clermont hosted Toulon in what turned out to be a severe hiding from the home side as they ran out 39-3 victors at the Stade Marcel Michelin.
They ran in five tries against a Toulon side lacking direction, with flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson missing penalties and eventually leaving the field at halftime.
His replacement Sebastien Fauque kicked a dropgoal, but that was all Toulon could muster as Clermont scored 29 unanswered points in the second half.
Matters were made worse as Toulon captain Joe Van Niekerk was yellow carded for committing what can only be described as two high tackles.
First he pulled fullback Anthony Floch down by the neck, then clothes-lined winger Napolioni Nalaga.
It's hard to tell which offense the ref sent him to the cooler for, but both high tackles would have comfortably earned him ten minutes on the sideline.
Dirty, yet amusing for some reason.

First comment, and poor tackling in my books!
By Lucas, at January 09, 2010 11:50 am
He hardly tackled them, looked like a bit of acting by the two. Still pretty amusing.
By Redron, at January 09, 2010 11:56 am
Please, can you do more player tributes? That would be nice, i love tributes and you have few
By Anonymous, at January 09, 2010 11:57 am
Nobbie Nock the commentator is hilarious. 'Surely that's a red card'. And he's just pissing himself laughing the whole time. Forget player tributes, we need more commentator tributes.

Any need for the pathetic comments that are on here???
Shocking 'tackles' but you can see the funny side!!!
By Nick, at January 09, 2010 12:34 pm
Nalaga goes down very easy! And Floch isn't hit that hard, as Redron said!
Lazy tackling by Big Joe, sure, but there's no real force behind it. Yellow seems harsh.
By Peej, at January 09, 2010 12:39 pm
great evil laugh by the commentator
got to be the next bond villian for sure
By pussy galore, at January 09, 2010 12:55 pm
This commentator is a shocker, is he the same bloke that referred to Wilkinson and "Wilkie"? What a nightmare, also that pass which Jonny threw wasnt the best as it didnt go to hand but a bit harsh to call it dreadful?!?!!

A South African cheating? *gasp*
By Anonymous, at January 09, 2010 1:29 pm
wasn't it in this game that a player broke a leg?
By Anonymous, at January 09, 2010 1:49 pm
Nice to see Floch rolling around on the floor, clutching his throat, which Van Niekerk didn't actually hit...
By RedYeti, at January 09, 2010 1:59 pm
lol that was nothing,it was just a funny moment.those two should go play panzy ball.
By Grayditch, at January 09, 2010 2:03 pm
Absolute classic!
Joe's a legend!

Definately not worthy of being posted. A nothing incident.
By Anonymous, at January 09, 2010 3:22 pm
I had a good laugh watching this. haha
By Garrett, at January 09, 2010 3:32 pm
last anon i think your mom is worthy of being posted
By bidlibow, at January 09, 2010 3:56 pm
pretty amusing
although the first so called "high tackle" is actually Floch leaning forward, making contact with JvN's arm and hegoes down for a hollywood
second one is very poor by such a talented player as JvN
By luxi, at January 09, 2010 3:58 pm
that clermont fullback: what a DIVER.. should play soccer
the way afterwards he pretends to be hit in the neck.. what a joke
tackle on Nalaga deserved a yellow
By Cheis, at January 09, 2010 4:34 pm
You read my mind! I was just about to post about this in the requests section - looks like I don't have to now...
Cheers
By Microbrew, at January 09, 2010 4:34 pm
classic! yup the clermont players are poofs!
By umaga13, at January 09, 2010 4:50 pm
I don't know who the French announcer is, but his comment that it looks like "Italian Football" is hilarious...
By Crosser, at January 09, 2010 5:04 pm
the guy who he first tackled went down holding his neck but not in to much pain then he see's the physio coming and rolls around a little more
classic puff
By geordie, at January 09, 2010 6:20 pm
too funny!
By jdawg, at January 09, 2010 6:33 pm
lol, the only funny side of it, this was perhaps the best "bargain" for a yellow card, as a yellow card normally involved hitting one player...
By vinniechan, at January 09, 2010 7:02 pm
Holy crap, that is the most outrageous and foul tackle Ive ever seen in my entire life, I would have given hima red, but it kinda looked like the second back fell back on purpose to make it look worse, which in hockey is called diving, which ytou can get penalized for lol.
By Nolan, at January 09, 2010 8:40 pm
Floch is reknown in France for acting like a football player. He's just a fukin looser and i hope we'll never see him again in a blue jersey.
By rodofle, at January 09, 2010 9:07 pm
seems there's been a lot of hollywood in this vid.
But JvN's tackles are awful. Even if they didn't really do much harm (except for Floch's self esteem or reputation) they COULD have been pretty dangerous as he clearly wanted to chop 2 heads off in one wrestling combo.
Another thing i can't bear and which is spreading in rugby today, coming straight from soccer influence along with badly acting/diving for penalties, is all this looooong congratulation time after a try.
By Maximus, at January 09, 2010 9:31 pm
Typical French overreacting. Main reason why they'll never win the WC.

Just when I thought that "guy" couldn't get any more annoying.
By Anonymous, at January 09, 2010 10:48 pm
this guy's a complet lunatic! ok a bit of overeacting, but seriously? he's mad!
couple of poor passes from wilkinson
By Anonymous, at January 09, 2010 10:58 pm
Fucking hilarious. Just sort of swiped once with each arm. Looked really lazy...
For the guys saying the Frogs were acting up, I can see where you're coming from, but at the same time, whenever I've taken any contact with the throat, it's a real shock and leaves you out of breath and stunned for a bit.
By HM, at January 10, 2010 1:24 am
WWF FTW!
By Rev. Fred Phelps, at January 10, 2010 2:03 am
^Eh, France will never win the world cup? They beat ever other team on a regular basis, have a very large squad of quality players, and have gotten to the final before. England did it for God's sake, why can't France?
And I must say again, my respect for Robbie Nock the commentator has gone up from watching this. He always puts a smile on my face. And I said 'Nobbie' in my first comment. That was an accident.
By Kearney for tests, at January 10, 2010 3:16 am
He looked a bit like Tarzan there, swinging from tree to tree...or neck to neck, as it were.
By Canadian, at January 10, 2010 3:34 am
The commentators (SIMON, although he wasn't commentating at the time)are the biggest wankers. They always moan at what players do wrong and laugh like school girls.
Pathetic.
And stop hating South African rugby players, just because they fucked the BIL and are world champions.
By 881, at January 10, 2010 4:19 am
881, wouldnt really say SA fucked up the B&I Lions, two close losses and a huge win in the last. Don't get ahead of yourself, you're no NZ.
By J89, at January 10, 2010 5:21 am
We raped New Zealand 4 times last year, skippy. The third Lions Test doesn't count because we were resting most of out top players... you know, so we'd be ready for the 3N. First Lions test wasn't close, too little too late for the British Boys. Second Lions test... yeah we neat you with 14 men on the field.
BOKKE 4 LIFE. WORLD CHAMPIONS. NO. 1 IN THE WORLD. SUPER 14 CHAMPIONS. 3N CHAMPIONS. DOMINATION.
By Anonymous, at January 10, 2010 5:44 am
Journey Man Joe working over the British. LOVE IT.
By Anonymous, at January 10, 2010 5:46 am
Hey, Anonymous, that has nothing to do with this video. And you really ought to choose your words more wisely, given the irony of your first sentence.
I think Floch should've been smacked on the head for that pitiful display. I didn't even catch the humor of the French commentator until Crosser mentioned the bit about Italian rugby. Awesome...
By flapjack, at January 10, 2010 5:54 am
Good video, but would appreciate some more coverage of the top 14 as this website seems to be the only place where highlights can be found..
By Crazy_Smurf, at January 10, 2010 6:12 am
The Clermont players dived, it's obvious.
Van Niekerk barely touched them.
This European diving soccer mentality is creeping into the game, it's shit.
By Anonymous, at January 10, 2010 6:40 am
brilliant pass by JvN at 0"35
By Maximus, at January 10, 2010 10:39 am
For those who want to watch some rugby today : stade toulousain / asm clermont auvergne on canal+ website at 20:45 (french hour).
The last confrontations between these two teams were great (top14 2008 final) so i hope it will be another time.

JVN is a meathead but I find him amusing. Much better choice than spies for no.8
By Anonymous, at January 10, 2010 6:11 pm
Of course he should have been sent off, but what I hate is the players on the ground milking it like football/soccer players.
By Mystery, at January 11, 2010 11:52 am
Agree with above. Definite yellow but loked like the players were making a meal of it.
By Andy, at January 11, 2010 3:15 pm
I know its off topic, but since someone mentioned it, aren't NZ No.1 in the world. Also, SA beat NZ 3 times last season, not 4, which NZ have done many times to SA.
Good to see Dr. Phil back, by the way.
By Anonymous, at January 11, 2010 5:17 pm
@J89 you are right in saying we are no NZ we actually win World Cups (please note the plural s) only problem is we are too cocky and dont know when to shut up.
By DontMentionTheWCinNZ, at January 11, 2010 8:09 pm
looks like rugga's going the way of that sissy sport with the round ball, all the play acting and such....disgusting.
By semperfimamba, at January 11, 2010 9:24 pm
first wasn't,Flach was falling anyway, minimal contact, second one was WWF style!
By Anonymous, at January 12, 2010 12:10 pm
I think a yellow because it is clearly 2 high tackles one after the other, so really its a 'dont be stupid, have a yellow card' thing.
In terms of their ferocity, i dont think either was particularly bad, i think the first looked worse although i didnt really make out any throat contact.... but neither of them on their own would deserve any more than a penalty.
