Marshall chats to Mehrtens about France's Six Nations
Saracens scrumhalf Justin Marshall travelled to Paris recently to have a chat with his old mate, current Racing Metro flyhalf Andrew Mehrtens, about the upcoming Six Nations, and France in particular.
Marshall and Mehrtens were halfback partners for both the All Blacks and Crusaders on many occasions, so the banter is always good when these two characters of the game get together.
As is touched on, French rugby is in a pretty good place right now. The Top 14 is littered with talent, both local and foreign, and the national side goes into this Six Nations after having beaten the Springboks convincingly just a couple of months back.
As always though, there is a down side to the French game, and that is the inconsistency that exists. You just don't know if France will arrive to play, or simply be brushed aside as we saw a week after that great win, when they went down to the All Blacks.
The bookies have tipped France to be a favourite though, as their mix of naturally gifted backs and physically dominant forwards may well click, and perhaps this will be their championship.
Mehrtens, who's spent a few years playing in France now - first with Toulon and then with Racing Metro - gives his feelings on who to watch out for in this years tournament, talks about why French flair is a myth, and shows off by speaking in Welsh. Enjoy.

Man people take this website for granted.
Thanks for posting this RD - interesting video. Cool that Marshall is being treated as a host/pundit already, and his career isn't even over yet.
Also amazing that Mehrtens is still playing! Fresh off his starring role in Invictus :P

First Anonymous,
Is that not the same thing (money) when we talk of football and the John Bull Premier League ?

Thks RD for this video.
Maybe a gift of consolation due to the precedent debate about the presence of french rugby in british medias ;)
Merhtens seems to be a cool guy. i don't know his real level in racing
ps: some people should really let their comments on youtube than here, seriously

This is ridiculous, I'm outraged, no mention of the other 5 nations? Why the hell not? I want an interview about the English premiership and the Magners league cut and edited onto the end of this video, even if it doesn't make any sense. Imagine this, it's obscene, there's more than just France in world rugby you know.

^To the guy just above. This is a show about France's chances, so I think unless you're a fucktards you'll understand why it's just about France.

It's hard to say cause i'm french, but rosbif frog is not so wrong...
I hope the winner will be the team which will play the most beautiful game, and I know that France will give an answer to the last humiliation against England !
PS : NZ who are speaking english about France, I think it's a conspiracy. Obviously!

So what? And maybe they also love playing at a high level and can do so while living in France and getting well paid for it, sounds alright to me. They've both given plenty to the game, good on them if they want to keep making a decent living from it. You would envy them if you had any imagination.

About the real level of Mehrtens.
He is atually not really playing anymore. Most of the time he is a sub and starts the games scarcely. I guess he started for the last time in the challenge cup.
He is getting too old now, you can see him wearing his years on the field. He still has a good overview of the game though but becomes inconsistent.

What is Merts now, about 37 or something?
Very old to still be playing pro rugby.
