Best tries of the Top 14 - Round 22

While some of you are still getting over the shock announcement that League and Union will be merging in 2016, we thought it would be a good time to check out some of the best tries scored recently in the French Top 14, with Round 22's best tries compilation.

The standard for this round was pretty good as usual, with some great tries being scored. This compilation isn't put together by RD, so bear in mind that the order is chosen by the tv channel, so you might not agree with them.

What it does make though is a great mix, with good tries all the way from ten to number one. Notable standouts would Nicolas Jeanjean's for Brive against Stade Francais, Sam Gerber for Bayonne against Clermont, and Jean Bouilhou for Toulouse.

That Bouilhou try is a personal favourite as it featured Cedric Heymans at his sublime best as he sithed through the line following an excellent flick on. The vision to get his pass away was superb.

As always, the French commentators go off their head in the commentary box, adding to the excitement of one of the most entertaining leagues in world rugby. Enjoy the tries.

  • Cedric Heymans is just awesome... this N°2 try is great. And the last try for Biarritz is perfectly classic. Good tries in this top14 round.

  • Anonymous, the last try is by Ian Balshaw for Biarritz, and not by Haskell.

the bible _is_ an April Fool's trick....

  • Yet again a Brive try is made from Fabrice Estebanez's offloads. Since he has gone to fly half (and they have ditched Andy Goode) they have gone from a side with no attacking potential to a really threatening side with ball in hand. Bien joué.

    Nice tries full stop!

  • Nice selection RD with some particularly ingenious efforts this time .. as always the numbering of the tries seems arbitrary .. eg the #1 had some slick ball-handling for sure, but compared to a few of the others it was a fairly straightforward movement. I ain't complaining though.

  • Shame Heymans wasn't picked for 6 nations...

  • "Shame Heymans wasn't picked for 6 nations..."

...they seemed to get by just fine, eh?

  • #1 totally deserves its ranking : see how the defence is close and moving fast, but Biarritz incredible handling just outpaces the defending side.

it's not that one player gained advantage over another, it's that, for a tiny piece of time, almost the whole team got better than almost the whole defense !

Great job by Heymans for try #2 (don't worry, he'll be at the WC !)

I don't disagree with your description of what happened, quick hands beating the defence close to the line, a well executed basic play, good sides would hope to score from that position regularly. I'll take #6, elusive running deep in mid-field, pass, beating two men, pass, deft kick ahead off side of foot, bustling follow-up, score .. creating a try from an unpromising position.
Both are terrific tries but in this case I rate the creative over the classical.
