Hong Kong player does a crazy flip to get on Rugbydump
Here’s a quick clip for you as the week comes to an end and we start what should be a huge weekend of rugby in the Heineken Cup, Super 14, European Challenge Cup, and Asian Five Nations. This clip comes from the latter.
The tournament kicked off last weekend, with hosts Hong Kong beating South Korea 32-8 to jump six positions on the IRB world rankings, boosting their hopes of qualifying for their first ever Rugby World Cup place.
They play Bahrain today and if they come out on top, will climb another three places up to 30th in the world, which translates to a nine-spot progression in the space of a fortnight.
Tries were scored by Nigel Clarke, Keith Robertson, and Tom McQueen as they went on to pick up an impressive victory that holds them in good stead going into this weekend.
Young flyhalf Robertson notched up a personal tally of 14 points, scoring a try and kicking his points, but also flying over a defender with this flip out of the tackle.
He mentioned Rugbydump in a post match interview when talking about the crazy flip move, so I thought it would be cool to share it on here.
Thanks to the RugbyAsia Channel for the footage, and to Keith for keeping Rugbydump on the map globally. You can keep up to date with the tournament here.

The lad did well to get rugbydump a mention on TV, but the flip was nothing special. Who dug this clip up?
By D Knapp, at April 30, 2010 4:56 pm
Yeah, its more about the mention for RD, which I thought was pretty cool.

Haha, I bet that's why Todd Clever dove over the physio back in the Sevens as well, he just didn't say so explicitly. ;)
Everyone wants to be on Rugbydump.

When Steve Walsh goes to bed after blowing a call in a S14 match, he checks under his bed to make sure Rugbydump isn't waiting.

Marquesman, why would jumping over a tackle be illegal?
By rudy, at May 01, 2010 1:17 am

Yes it is, it´s dangerous play.
By Anonymous, at May 01, 2010 1:29 am
it wasn't illegal cos it wasn't really a jump. his legs got taken from under him in a tackle and his upper body went flipping forward lol
By Anonymous, at May 01, 2010 3:03 am
Legend! 7's is awesome... As is the dump!
By Tui, at May 01, 2010 3:20 am
"Yes it is, it´s dangerous play."
What, c'mon I'd like to see explicit prohibition of jumping over a tackle. Until then, I don't believe that it's illegal. Athleticism ftw.

I think this shows the great impact and positive impact Rugbydump has had on the rugby community at large. It really, truly is a fantastic site.
Btw great performance by HK against Korea. HK were underdogs but smashed the Koreans to bits. Great backline!
By jeffrey, at May 01, 2010 9:02 am
^ agreed.
@ Tui, this wasn't sevens though, this was a proper Test match. Asian Five Nations. :)
By FrankyH, at May 01, 2010 9:34 am
The reason you don't try and jump over a tackle is because 9 times out of 10 you will land on your head and break your neck. They get away with it in american football cause those guys have poor tackling technique.
By fixed end moment, at May 01, 2010 9:55 am
I made something like this couple times in matches:D Nothing special:P
By Anonymous, at May 01, 2010 10:29 am
No, marquesman is right, the rules explicitly say that you cannot jump when about to be tackled (no jumping "over" the tackle). It is in the lawbooks, and I think it is there over 100 yeas. Probably had to deal with it early during the expansion of the game. Who knows what sorts of mischief were coming to peoples minds when rules weren't so precise.
About this tackle I am surprised if it wasn't refereed as "dangerous tackle". But I hope it isn't because the tackler did nothing wrong. It is a terrible trend nowadays for refs blowing up dangerous tackles whenever a guy is up-ended.
But I wouldn't go that far as calling this flip a skill. It would be a skill if he kept on running after that :)

'What, c'mon I'd like to see explicit prohibition of jumping over a tackle. Until then, I don't believe that it's illegal. Athleticism ftw.'
It is actually illegal, but this wasnt a jump

'a product of nottingham university rfc...'

...so...yeh, good on nottingham, but definately not a product of them!
By .....um.....no..., at May 01, 2010 4:35 pm
why hong kong play counterfit pitch.
this game steal from korea.
By Anonymous, at May 01, 2010 6:07 pm
lame
By Anonymous, at May 02, 2010 10:53 am
if you rewatch the vid he didn't make contact with the tackler at all, meaning he jumped the tackle which is definitely illegal.
By sergeant stu, at May 02, 2010 11:11 am
He didnt jump- -
The tackler wanted to tackle on his leg, but he fell over, so it seemed 'he didn't make contact with the tackler'
It wasnt illegal at all
By Anonymous, at May 02, 2010 12:00 pm
Still no citation of the law book, just a bunch of people saying "yes, it's illegal".
Nowhere in Law 10 did I see anything regarding "jumping over a tackle", which would explain why no referees called this for a foul.
So, either come up with some proof, or stop blowing smoke out of your asses.
