O2 Inside Line - Episode 10

It's time for the last episode of the O2 Inside Line show as we head into the all important final weekend of the championship, with a Grand Slam up for grabs, as well as avoidance of the wooden spoon on the agenda for two teams.

Over the last few weeks we've featured this segment as a nice way to get you behind closed doors within a top international team. While some might have felt it was a bit of England overload, we'd like to think that most rugby fans would still get some value from the insight provided, especially in the week leading up to a big match.

In this case the clash this weekend is the England meeting with Ireland in Dublin, a game that will determine whether or not England pick up the Championship, and the Grand Slam.

In this week's Inside Line show Austin and Abi discuss their performance against Scotland, we experience more of the player-cam banter, and Tom Croft and Nick Easter answer your twitter questions while they attempt to draw a caricature of former England back, Austin.

Hopefully you've enjoyed the segment over the last month, and if you ever come across similar shows from other countries, or represent an official organisation that would like to do the same thing on the site, please do get in touch and we'll see what we can do.

To get the inside scoop on the squad, as well as fun features, match analysis and up to the minute player interviews with presenters Austin Healey and Abi Griffiths, sign up for alerts and watch O2 Inside Line on RFU TV at O2InsideLine.com

  • Not quite sure what the above users is getting at..."oh damn" to Abi probably - she is FIT

Cheers for these RD, i've been tuning in each week for this as it has become a regular feature. Agree - if there are any other countries who do the same then great but people shouldn't knock England for trying to give the fans something fun.

  • just wanted to stop you Stuart from exploding with excitement at tuning in every week to be the first to comment.

  • How kind of you Mr anonymous. Still a good vid!

  • 'i dont think any other backrower would have finished that try off'

    how about spies?

Im English but i can see and Ireland win. Banahan is a backward step, Waldouck should play instead. If Flutey was fit, replace Hape.

Also can England really cope without a proper openside aka Fourie?

  • I'm with Stuart... It's been good fun tuning into this every week. Good to see the England players doing something a bit different!!!

wasps supporter by any chance are you crazy

  • last anon, spies would have the speed yes, but sadly he doesnt have a rugby brain (brain)so its hard to say whether he would have had the sense to be supporting that line!

  • 'is this side about to repeat history?'

...don't be silly...we'll win the 6N guaranteed... (not sure about the grand slam..i reckon so, but then ireland might pull something out the bag to clinche a win..)

But in terms of going on to the RWC...I dunno, i reckon the quarter finals definately.. POSSIBLY, the semi's but i dont really think we'll get into the final again...

p.s I'd like us to get in the final even if we didnt win it overall, but i don't really see it happening..its all just too far away from home, all the SH teams have a close to home advantage, and i think england hasn't quite reached its peak.. however, that is based on the autumn internationals and the 6N...there is still a huge amount of training and form to be found between now and the world cup...

By Anonymous Sam, at March 18, 2011 3:50 pm

  • ""Dont know any other backrow in the world that would have finished that off"". Well Austin I could think of a few, Harindounquay, Read, Spies, Heaslip, Ferris, Pollock.... is he for real? Croft is a great player but sometimes he is built up to been the best backrower in the world

By Blogger Unknown, at March 18, 2011 3:55 pm

  • Yeh, gotta admit (like others said) it was a pretty stupid comment:

'dont think any other back rower in the world would have finished that try off'

Unless he is talking about physically ending up in the supporting part where croft was then i think he's just nuts....

Croft didnt exactly do much...he got the ball and flattened a scot...

I think most back rowers who are handed the ball about 15 metres out and faced with one backline player who kick themselves if they didnt score that...

  • I could do with one of those Heart attack/stroke pies right now! Im starving.

    A few points:

    1. Great work RD. Interesting to see the England team during the week.

    2. would someone smash that camera over haskell's thick head. the guy is such a tool and he pisses me off so much.

    3. On someones comment about banahan. I dont think its a step backward at all, the guy is solid in defence. He is what you want for a 13, (big and hard) and he can run the ball. I want to see him ship the ball out well though, (I havent seen him play much in either club or internationals so i dont know about his passing) also hope for englands sake his hands are good. I think I recall seeing him drop it a couple times in the autumn tests. He is more useful in the centre, out on the wing he was wasted i think.

  • 'i dont think any other backrower would have finished that try off'

    Austin, seriously..? :)

i'll watch IRE-ENG with a good guiness. i bet england will win the 6N, but not so sure for the slam

  • Haskell is a good rugby player. What he is not, however, is a comedian.

He would do well to be a little more self-aware. Might be more like-able too.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 18, 2011 7:39 pm

  • Hope it's a good open game and may the best team win!
England, one of the favourites for the World Cup? Austin is getting a little carried away isn't he?

I think England were very convincing against Wales and Italy but nothing special against France or Scotland, could have lost either.

All that said COME ON IRELAND!

By Anonymous Eire go Breà, at March 18, 2011 7:55 pm

  • Good vid but Austin Healy talks rubbish. Bless him for his patriotism but the guy is deluded.
If I were a backrower, I would have finished that.
World Cup? They'll do ok owing to an easy draw but NZ will destroy every part of their game, The Boks will power them off the park as usual and Aus will run rings around their backline.

By Blogger Unknown, at March 18, 2011 8:30 pm

  • Thanks RD for putting this up, interesting clip.

I'm English and very pleased with the progress the team has made since the dark days post-WC when we couldn't even put together a steep attacking line, BUT...

... the laughable hype surrounding the English team's few solid wins is pretty embarrassing. We're nowhere near as slick, consistent or confident as the SH teams, nor do we have any form of comparable squad depth.

Also the staged chatter between Austin and that young lady is just painful.

  • Haskell is a lad, think he is pretty entertaining with the player cam personally.

By Blogger Rich, at March 18, 2011 9:43 pm

  • I'm sorry but Haskell, what a utter twat. Healy's just doing what English football fans do to their football team for every tournament, set them up for the fall. Also a cunt. Tindall, what are you wearing man, for fuck sake.

In conclusion, I hope Ireland steam roll them.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 18, 2011 11:50 pm

  • Wow, some people are easily offended by a little banter by some of these guys in the vid. Don't take yourselves TOO seriously guys!!!

By Blogger Alexander, at March 19, 2011 4:59 am

  • Auradelacy, NZ and SA may well win but you can't be serious about Aus? They've lost 2/3 to England over the last 12 months! Unlike SA and NZ they tend not to be able to use their backs once they get a northern hemisphere ref who doesn't just use the scrum to restart the game as they have a crap front 5!

Haskell is a a weapon, agreed!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 19, 2011 9:22 am

  • This English shite makes me sick, i hope Ireland batters them!!

Afraid not, im a gloucester fan, so maybe thats partially why i don't like that centre pairing, i just think waldouck is the future centre. I'd also like John Clarke at 13. I honestly also think at the moment Flutey is the biggest bet at 12. Maybe try Manu after the world cup, but i don't think he's ready yet.

  • very enjoyable watching that small part at the beginning of the vid about repeating history and all that, especially after what happened to them this weekend, england need to deflate their heads and concentrate on playing to their potential if they ever expect to beat the southern hemisphere teams, ireland had an awful six nations and managed to humilaite them like that. long way to go
