Eoin Reddan hits the turf after Lee Byrne kick meets his face
Ireland scrumhalf Eoin Reddan must surely be a contender for the record of quickest injured in an international, as he was knocked out just 22 seconds into the much talked about Wales vs Ireland Six Nations game on Saturday.
Reddan went to charge down a kick from Lee Byrne and managed to cop the ball flat in the face, seemingly knocking him out cold before he hit the turf. And hit the turf he did, as the thump on the ground would have done him no favours, meaning his immediate removal from the park.
He suffered concussion and while there were concerns over him not being able to play in the big game against England this coming weekend, he has since been included in the match day 22, and his start will depend on his visit with a neurologist.
This knock, while it was horrible to watch, reminds me of a few others we've seen over the years. Strangely enough all three come from down under, which is fitting as they coined the phrase 'Falcon' after all.
The most memorable are the knocks to Cory Jane and Kurtley Beale, and then a poor referee last year got in the way of a clearing kick, taking the full brunt of it.

Enjoy it Conor. Wear that sash with pride :)
Lights out Eoin. That looked really bad. A week's recovery seems quite quick though. It should be longer surely

I was at the Wales vs USA game in Chicago Summer 2008, and Ryan Jones got knocked out catching the kick off. That was the concussion that ruled him out of a Lions call up.

Byrne has one of the biggest boots in world rugby. Not to mentioned, Reddan's face slamming of the ground didn't help.

It actually can knock you round pretty bad, especially if you don't see it coming.
Just in case anyone's wondering the term Falcon, refers to a rugby league player in Australia, called Mario Fenech. He was Maltese, his nickname (in a joking way) was the Maltese Falcon.
He got tonked like two or three times in the face with the ball and the legend was born.

Fair play to Reddan to get there so quick and put his body on the line.
I was really happy to see him go off though. Not because I wanted Stringer to come on, but because normally when someone is concussed the medical staff end up letting them play on and it's really just very dangerous and very irresponsible to do that, so it was good to finally see someone who obviously wasn't fit to play come off with no argument.

A week of training, mental preparation, psych up, anthems, adrenalin.. then knocked out within seconds.
That has got to suck.

Don't remember seeing one where the player didn't get up. But Reddan took that flush, boy that must have hurt.
