Gloucester Rugby show off their tricks and talent at training
Just as the hype surrounding the All Blacks tricks at training videos has died down a little, out comes another one, from a different team, that is sure to get you scratching your head while asking the question, 'How did they do that?'
There's an obvious answer of course, but we wouldn't want to take away too much from this latest offering from Gloucester Rugby, which serves as not only a bit of fun, but a nice way to market their main club sponsor, Jewson.
Teaming up for yet another in the viral video contenders for the year, Jewson and Gloucester produced this short film to show some of the fun and unbelievable talent that is on display behind the scenes, at a laid back training session at Kingsholm.
Narrated by Mike Tindall, it also features James Simpson-Daniel, Henry Trinder, Freddie Burns, and Charlie Sharples, as they make the exceptional look easy in a few minutes of footage that it's got to be said, it pretty good to watch.
"This was a really enjoyable project and one that we were pleased to be involved in. We hope it entertains not only our supporters but rugby fans and sports fans as a whole," said Pete Grzonka, Head of Sales and Marketing at Gloucester Rugby.
So while it's not an incredibly original concept, it is good fun and although in the back of your mind you know that there's some serious video editing that has taken place, it's done well and is almost believable. Check this out.

By Anonymous, at May 25, 2011 11:21 pm

i actually think that beside those last three kick everything was rather not edited. i mean if u try it a hundred times its possible, in the end u just would have to put the pieces together.

tricks and talent but no trophies. =D

Nicely done and edited
If only their wingers could catch, they may be in the final this weekend!

That mascot deserves a knighthood!!

Now I know why they're so crap. They waste their time making stupid videos instead of actually training.
By New Centre Pairing, at May 26, 2011 12:32 am
I really hate these videos and here is why….
This type of video used to be cool about three years ago. Now it just looks stupid and dated - particularly when it’s trying to be real but it is so obviously fake.
The flight of the ball is all wrong and the jerky 'home-made' camera feel has been done before.
These guys are all professional rugby players, i don’t need video editing to convince me of their talent.
And as for the so-called 'fun' - sure, some of it is funny. However, the vast majority painfully forced. Rugby players aren’t actors and the whole thing ends up being embarrassing for everybody involved. Go watch the ACT Brumbies vid if you want to see a genuinely well done and funny video.
Really think sponsors, in this case Jewson, need to reconsider their marketing approach, get with the times and move on.
Come up with something new rather than rehashing the same old material.
Rant over but follow me on Twitter if you want to join in the rage.

Could've been a bit more original with the tricks, but I still enjoyed it.
More NH teams should do this IMO. A French one would be funny.
By Neo, at May 26, 2011 1:19 am
This is either from a bristol or a bath rugby fan because even tho we dont win anything we still finish higher than both of you. cheers, that is all.
tricks and talent but no trophies. =D

i think we´ve had enough of these. The real stuff is so much more entertaining.
elsewhere, keep up the good work rd!
By Anonymous, at May 26, 2011 4:38 am
The most tragic thing about these videos is that it leads to the undervaluing of REAL skills.
Professional sportsmen like these should be capable of amazing us with what they can do that they should not resort to trickery. Its at the same level as cheating.
By Krang, at May 26, 2011 4:51 am
Don't care what anybody says: I like those vid's.
Especialy the way they keep coming up with new impossible tricks.
Keep posting them please!

Always fun stuff to watch but a bit repetitive. it recalls me the "lip & dub" fashion, the first were great to watch, the twentieth...
By Colombes, at May 26, 2011 10:13 am
So they can throw crazy but then when the mascott attack them not a single one manages to hit it from 5 meters?
Mah !
By Anonymous, at May 26, 2011 11:15 am
great to watch, and i thought some were real, but thats probly just good editing ;)

Seriously, if you don't like these videos then don't watch them.
There's about one every six months, they're light hearted, funny and just mix things up a bit. Stop complaining or p*ss off.
As for the video, I thought this one was hilarious. Almost seemed like they were mocking previous trick videos. Loved the bit where one player kicked the ball for another to chase and two seconds later the chasing player was 2/3rds of the way down he pitch! Took him forever to get back again! :D
By Tom, at May 26, 2011 1:20 pm
jeez guys this isn't quite rene ranger going 'ez an all bleck my reictions need to be the bist' and taking it all seriously.
they know we know its all fake, they're just fucking around at the end of the season and having a bit of fun.
By Anonymous, at May 26, 2011 2:20 pm
@Tom
If you can't take criticism, don't read it. Stop complaining or leave your computer
By Krang, at May 26, 2011 2:54 pm
I just really enjoy seeing Tindal ripping the shit out of himself. Very humble. Good Lad.

I hate these edited videos.

fake and gay indeed. i don't get these, they're all a rip off of the NFL fantasy football ads.
By Chris Boy, at May 26, 2011 9:57 pm
Stale.
By Phil, at May 26, 2011 10:33 pm
Come on guys, no need to slash them, it's just a bit of fun to promote their sponsors, don't take it so seriously!
By Anonymous, at May 26, 2011 11:01 pm
Meh. Much like my motivation for playing, I didn't start watching rugby because I wanted to see a lot of pinpoint-accurate kicking and self-congratulatory posturing. These "skills" videos need to represent more than the reprehensible practice of kicking the ball away at every opportunity.
My proposed "skill" clips:
1) A ballcarrier plows through a cinderblock wall. One of the Tuilagis should be able to do this.
2) A tackler takes down something absurd (like a horse or a rhino or something). Maybe get David Pocock on the job here. Or Jason White.
3) A pack scrums down against a pickup truck, bulldozer, jumbo jet, or comparably difficult to push around object. Northhampton are the obvious choice.
4) Maybe someone rucking a small car back over the ball would be good too. I think you've probably got your pick of SA forwards there.
Enough back skills. Yawn.
By N8, at May 27, 2011 1:38 am
seriously got the dregs of comment posters out for this one, myself included!

@N8 sounds like a great idea for a new vid! the absurd things are quite amusing so maybe a line out throw across the entire pitch?
@krang, there's a difference between criticism and non-stop moaning.
By Tom, at May 27, 2011 10:03 am
"Skills are still there". Too bad they all fail to throw a ball at the mascot in the end.
By Anonymous, at May 27, 2011 10:41 am
The sketch when all 3 kick at the crossbar and has a slow motion replays is in fact real.
By Anonymous, at May 27, 2011 11:19 am
What mileage do any of you tits get out of bashing vids like this? they're just in good fun. "fake and gay"? Jesus fucking christ, get over yourself.
By Anonymous, at May 27, 2011 5:56 pm
You guys do know the comments section is for people to post their opinions right? Just because an opinion differs from yours doesn't mean its not a worthwhile comment.
Personally I am pretty bored of these videos. Stick to the clips of real rugby.
And to paraphrase "if you dont like what people are commenting, dont read the bloody comments section"
By Rich, at May 28, 2011 1:01 am
Funny how they could all have this amazing accuracy but when it came to hitting the mascot with the balls they failed miserably.
By Les Bleus, at May 28, 2011 9:05 am
Lmao, for goodness sake, complaining about this undermining the real skills. This is just for fun and its hilarious!
By Anonymous, at May 28, 2011 1:44 pm
Love how they show off their skills by hitting the crossbar from miles away, but when they try to hit the mascot at the end they all miss!!
By Greg, at May 28, 2011 1:47 pm
tricks and talent but no trophies....pretty sure glos won the anglo-welsh this year?
also whilst watching it i thought it was pretty obvious they were taking the mick out of themselves and the whole edited video thing?
genuinely shocked there's this many people getting so irate about it?
By jeppy89, at May 29, 2011 11:24 am
Haha, yeh totally unoriginal and fake, but the bits with Tindall in it are gas. The whack he gets off that ball is ACE! hahhaha
