England juniors great try savers and France's kicking tactics
If you missed it, highlights of some of the Junior World Championship games were posted here a couple of days ago, with England and France coming out on top in their games. This video highlights some of their best moments, including some amazing try savers.
The two old rivals will meet again in the semi finals tomorrow, with England no strangers to the semi finals, while it's the first time the French have reached the knockout stage.
The young England team seem to have what it takes to progress to the final, where they will meet the winner of the Australia vs New Zealand semi. While they showed against South Africa that they've got the heart to keep out even the most determined of challenges, France will pose a different threat entirely.
"France have been very good, they bring what all French players bring to a game, a bit of flair, the physicality, they can create something out of nothing," said England flyhalf George Ford.
"All I know is we will have to play and be on it for the full 80 minutes and also focus on our game as well. I am not really thinking about it (the final) right now, just about playing France and making sure we perform as well as we can."
The following video shows some of England's great try saving tackles against South Africa, namely from second row Joe Launchbury, as the Baby Boks threw everything at them late in the game. The tackles weren't in the other highlights vid, so that's why this is being posted. The clip also shows France's successful kicking tactics against Australia, which resulted in great tries.
Junior World Championship Semi Final details:
Wed 22 June - 18:00 - England vs France - Stadio Comunale di Monigo, Treviso
Wed 22 June - 20:10 - New Zealand vs Aus - Stadio Comunale di Monigo, Treviso

second "try saver" is a penalty for SA because of the tackler not realeasing when takle was completed but well done for fouling.

^ Bitter much?

Did I hear it correctly at 2:18? - "South Africa are throwing everything at the kitchen sink"
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 1:04 pm
Everything *and* the kitchen sink, it's an idiom.

is that a third armitage brother?
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 1:33 pm
That's the youngest Armitage but i think there's 4 that play rugby, 1 plays for a Championship side i think?
great post, cheers RD!

Northern Hemisphere or Southern Hemisphere? Discuss...

That farmer commentator needs to find a new job. Shocking.
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 3:00 pm
^^^ Haha. yeah he's an acquired taste commentator, i don't personally mind him but can see your point....
He doesn't do big international matches thankfully.
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 3:31 pm
Never a penalty he was off his feet for half a second and by then they had already turned him...
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 3:35 pm
So french flair is not dead ! : )
Hope they'll make it to the final (but I heard there was a lot of injury in the French Squad after the game).
Anyway.. who's gonna beat the baby-blacks ?
By Ulf, at June 21, 2011 3:54 pm
France= shit...
England= Woefull...
Australia= Worse...

There is going to be no stopping them...the skill levels in every other country is shite

England are such cheats at the break down!
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 5:14 pm
lol the #10 didnt release on the 2nd tackle, it should have been penalty RSA.
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 5:33 pm
England cheated and beat the saffas at the breakdown!
Lucky the baby blacks will own them.
Same is the big boys comp too, NZ will show those cheating idiots how to play!
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 5:36 pm
That number 11 for the Baby Boks looks like one to watch. The number 14... not so much
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 5:49 pm
French fullback is class...
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 5:51 pm
Anyone else really sick of the bullshit "pride" comments that never seem to cease....
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 6:06 pm
That Armitage is Guy, who plays in London Irish, along brothers Delon and Steffon (who is heading to Toulon next season). A fourth brother, Bevon (yeah, their parents weren't that creative with names)is playing in the Championship, las time I checked for Moseley.
Great stuff on show here, I was wondering why Christian Wade (the brown England 22) wasn't in the 1st XV as he's a very good player in attack, but after watching his rather sad attempt to tackle here I understand why.
Cheers

Both the Co-commentators sound like they just smoked a shite load of pot before helping call the game....
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 8:46 pm
Can't believe the NZL's complaining of England cheating at the breakdown! Richie McCaw is on his third novel of ‘how to cheat at the breakdown and pull a stupid face when questioned about it’!
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 9:07 pm
"My name's Richie McCaw and everyone from New Zealand think I'm an amazing rugby player but really I'm a cheat!! And I've cheated you into thinking I'm awesome!!"
Yeah I said it....
you heard it here first.
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 10:27 pm
*thinks
Apologies...
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 10:28 pm
Prepared to be told I'm wrong but I thought the tackle is complete when tackled player on the floor. By the time he hits the floor, number 10 is ripping the ball not tackling
By Anonymous, at June 21, 2011 10:42 pm
South Africa Number 11 is wandile Mjekevu playing for the Lions as much as I know
By Anonymous, at June 22, 2011 12:06 am
ha, loving all the "all blacks will destroy you cheating english" comments, as if they'll do it on your behalf, simmer down children and enjoy the rugby
By Jonno, at June 22, 2011 12:27 am
A lot of childish comments on this thread....
By Alexander, at June 22, 2011 2:32 am
Sounds to me like the commentator was pronouncing the fench dude's name "putain"....
By really?, at June 22, 2011 2:32 am
2nd "try saver" is a blatant penalty. Very funny to hear the commentator saying ref is completely right! Time for him to have check IRB rules! or comment footbal maybe
By Anonymous, at June 22, 2011 2:00 pm
Great stuff! Best two teams are in the final without a doubt, All Blacks are a class above though.
Poor old South Africa, sounds like the whole world is against them in this thread! Just enjoy the rugby, we don't need these bitchy and childish comments!
By Anonymous, at June 22, 2011 11:45 pm
It's true, it was a penalty.
The tackler must release and roll away. He didn't do that, so it should have been a penalty.
By Anonymous, at June 23, 2011 4:57 am
the number 10 for england can't tackle properly. Aim for the legs. Every rugby player gets told that right from the toddies
By Anonymous, at June 23, 2011 7:14 am
Some good skill shown by young people who get very little time to train together compared to senior squads, hence them not being as cohesive as possible. But there is hope for rugby there :)
The england fly tackled, released and stole the ball. It wasn't illegal, but it should probably have been a scrum 5 because it technically made him carry it over the line. If people are going to complain about the tackle rules all the time do it elsewhere, you come across as bitchy and quite annoying because you are hardly right.
By Cormac, at June 23, 2011 10:17 pm
Cormac your dreaming if you think the England 10 released him before going for the ball. Absolutely dreaming. Laughable in fact.
And people ain't complaining about the rules, just the inconsistent enforcement of them.
By Tim, at June 25, 2011 12:17 pm
hey! i've played a couple of times on that field!
