Super 12 highlights 1999 - 2000

As the 2009 Super 14 kicks off today, we’ve got another video for you from a past tournament that featured some fantastic tries and close encounters.

The Crusaders began their dominance of the tournament in 1998 with their title victory, and continued that supremacy by winning the next two years, marking their impressive three year stint as the side to beat.

Ten years back, in 1999, they faced the Otago Highlanders in the final in Dunedin.
The Crusaders won 24-19 in a closely fought final, lifting their second Super 12 title.

In 2000 it was again the turn of the men in red from Canterbury, as they beat the Brumbies in another tight and tense final, with 20-19 being the score in the end.

This clip features a few more classic tries from the tournaments, with some of the big names featuring nicely. Look out for a young George Smith, nineteen years old at the time, scoring a neat try.

sure mate, i might not be as derranged as james the convict but the super 14 is great. Why cant u just enjoy the rugby?

Really enjoyed that RD, cheers.

On a side note, is it me or have rugby jersies got worse and worse since about 1995? There are some truly horrible ones in this vid (the Highlanders esp) and the current crop are really terrible with England's and Scotland's being probably the worst. The only team who look consistently good is the All Blacks. Choose one colour. Stick to it. That's the rule as far as I'm concerned.

I Think that video did the S14 more justice than the other one. This one had lots of that good old SH running game.

sick - different game now though

you guys wait till you see the intensity of last nights game

very good kicking - all 100 miles an hour counter attacking

Giteau had a screamer - although they lost - has to be close to worlds best 10 now

Mortlock led by example and even through a great cut out pass for a crucial try

Will there be any games shown of the 09 super 14 games? I've been watching all of the games since Friday and man...Was just blowen away at how fast pace and intense the games are!! They make every other rugby look like tiddlywinks (sp). This is coming from a England fan!!
