Leinster tries vs Munster - Heineken Cup Semi Final

As the dust settles after another frantic weekend of rugby, we look back at the tries that made the difference between Leinster and Munster in the Heineken Cup semi final on Saturday.

A historic victory from the side that were seemingly the underdogs, Leinster went toe to toe with last years winners and scored three excellent tries on the day through Gordon Darcy, Luke Fitzgerald, and Brian O'Driscoll.

Leinster coach Michael Cheika was keeping his feet firmly on the ground when talking about the big win.

"I think we stayed composed at a lot of the right times. We didn’t do very well in the lineout, really, but we were able to overcome that and get ball through other methods. We knew that. We knew we’d be coming under pressure in that area so... we’d some opportunities from other ball and I suppose, defensively, that was also a big part of trying to get some ball back as well, the defensive ruck.

"We decided that we wanted to play in a Heineken Cup final. We stayed composed today and we want to make sure we stay composed for the next few weeks and try to have a better performance.

"You can talk about this game in the future sometime but once you have the trophy they can’t take that away from you. So we’ve just got to knuckle down over the next few weeks, understand where we are in the bigger pictures of things and just build towards that game because a lot of things can happen between now and then."

Leinster will meet Leicester in the final at Murrayfield on the 23rd of this month.

Did O'Gara have a bad game? I saw the very beginning when he gets run over a few times (by Contepomi and Heslip I think) and then the interception (although that was also great game reading by O'Driscoll). Just a bit worried for the Lions tour if the little I saw of O'Gara's game reflects his whole match (I'm not saying he's a bad plaayer so nobody start barking at me)

munster are a spent force, hayes, horan, quinlan, stringer are all past it. earls will be a good player but he has a lot to learn and is nowhere near international class yet, it's a disgrace that he is on the lions ahead of d'arcy. it will certainly shut every munster fan up, thank god.

hi rugby dump im a leinster fan and i really like seeing the leinster try but i feel bad because i have been slagging all the munster people since we one so can you put some of their tries from the game up.... i think it would be nice!

Amazing heiniken cup this year so far. ROG is too inconsistent for a test place atm but hes got plenty of warm up games to show everyone what he can do. How earls made the tour ahead of d'arcy is a complete mystery.

Leinster really got tactics spot on. Get at ROG early on and exposing Mafi for always going for the big hit and overcommiting. Great result for Irish rugby and for the competition in my opinion.

Check out Sexton after the first try to ROG its exactly 16 seconds into the clip, Darcy touchs down for the first try and all the Leinster players run over to congratulate him and Sexton just runs over and screams in ROGs face,
Wonder what thats all about, obviously the two of them dont see eye to eye,
I have heard that Sexton is a total arrogant prick tho, so that might have something to do with it as well.

Funny to see people are saying munster are a spent force, after the ospreys game everyone was calling them the best club in europe. On the day Leinster were the better team, completly dominated Munster, fair play to them. But Munster have prooved themselves to be the most consistent team in Europe, it wasnt our day. ROG will bounce back from this bad performance as he always does. Also these clips dont show Earls linebreaks, he didhave a poor game defensivly though. Cardiff leicester was a better game with a worse finish. dont like what sexton did after darcy's try.

i see what people mean about keith earls, but he's had an incredible year and darcy's been injured so he really couldnt be considered.

Rocky Elsom should be the man of the match.. if you watch the game from the beginning.. just count how many important tackles he made and how many turnover he done.. absolutely enormous.. and his linebreaks early on the game was magnificent..
but BOD finish the game off by his interception try.. not much on the first half except a pass to nacewa which is consequently to D'Arcy try..

U are so right: The epitaphs for Munster are funny - what a turnaround after just _one_ match. Totally OTT.

They have a few ould timers but plenty comin trou (Earls is a great....wing!)

I did say to a Munster mate b4 de match: Leinsters only chance is Feilippi gettin injured after 20 mins and Sexton comin on: were they lucky with the 10's unluckiness?

(not that Sextons that good, but phils kickin game against M is always ropey these days, spur of the moment drop notwithstanding).

Re Sexton and O Gara: Munster are world renouned for their sledgin, O gara and phil have had their run ins...

Kenny... Do you watch many Munster games?? Sexton was getting in ROG's face pure & simple nothing personal it's the game. Munstr invented this. When the hand bags broke out in first half you can clearly see ROG get a sly dig in on both Darc & BoD (on youtube). You get under the oppositions skin & wind em up. We saw Donners & Fla Horan do it throughout 6N. As for Sexton being a total arrogant prick.... Hmm was in not a certain baby faced Munster no. 10 who said he should be staring ahead of Humps when the my from the North was miles ahead! & who jumped the advetising hordings in the '06 semi's to run into the crowd fist pumping.... Red tinted glasses Kenny! Hey at least you got the player right. HAd one Munster bandwagon head tell me Sexton shouting at Earls after the try was disgusting..... Id fucking celebrate if i scored a try in that game and i was fucking 50 years old, but i wouldnt run around screaming at the other team after if that team is basically my international team mates who i will also have to play with in the very near future.

Sexton played really well in the game, that still doesnt discount the fact that instead of just congratulating Darcy after his try he ran up and screamed in ROGs face and just looks like a little fuckin kid.

Thats why i brought up BOD, and yeah he is 30 and has the caps and it showed cause he didnt run around the pitch getting caught up in that type of bullshit, he just got on with his fucking game.

So Fla just cause i think Sexton needs to grow up doesnt make me any less a loyal supporter than you. so less of that BS.

If questioning my Leinster loyalties is the best you can do than you better go back to the drawing board, cause there is no one taht wants to see Leinster lift that HC trophey more than me.

well its a physical game so there is bound to be some "BUST UPS" during the game. Team mates sticking up for each other.

What that clip has to do with Sexton running over and screaming directly in O Garas face after the first Leinster try is beyond me.

Fla BOD Darcy and O Gara are playing on opposing teams so no one will mind the bust ups as they are part n parcel of the game, but that little piece i pointed out with Sexton just looks childish and pathetic.

I noticed the Sexton incident too and I think I'm goin to agree with Kenny on this one... and I'm another Leinster man. Sexton just comes across as a tosser - and in fairness to ROG I don't think he'd have screamed in anyone's face just after they'd scored a try. Also, I don't think you can compare this to the time O'Gara jumped the advetising hordings in the '06 semi's - if Sexton had just done that then I wouldn't be so pissed off.

I don't even mind if a player is arrogant - just so long as he backs it up.... like Rog for example... 2 HCs and a grand slam. If Sexton can do that in the next 7years then I'll eat my words. And I hope I do because he's a very decent prospect for us. For now though he should concentrate on cementing the no 10 jersey at Leinster coz winning the Schools Cup and owning a pair of pink boots isn't really going to cut it.

A great game tho.. Roll on Edinburgh!

Still he could be a great talent in the future if Cheika will grow some balls and give him some game time.

Hopefully hell get some invaluable international experience as well during the summer tours.

Its little things like the screaming incident that show you his naivety and lack of temperment which will come to him hopefully with more experience as it has to BOD and ROG

Won't write off Munster just yet. A big club like Munster who compete at all front is bound to suffer a dip at some stage. You can draw parallel with Leicester last season and look at where the Tigers are now.
Let's not forget, Munster have banked the Magners League.

As a Munster fan, who will support Leinster in the final, it saddens me to see the OTT glee that Leinster fans have in beating us.
Yes there are Munster fans who are obnoxious, but only because (a) we now have so many bandwagon fans, and (b) because if our team wins, of course we would celebrate.
Leinster fans' glee is also a reflection of their past failures. The very SAME as it was for Munster fans until 2006, remember.
There are just as many obnoxious Leinster fans as Munster fans, but for both teams, it's a small proportion.
Rugby still retains a great camaraderie (just look at the mixed crowd), and let's not forget that.

I know Munster didn't have the greatest game but 1:50 is one of the many reasons that O'Connel is Lions captain. He didn't back down at all from that one and that is what we need to take on the South Africans.

Its amazing how leinster fans cant show any grace in victory. Sum of the abuse is ridiculous especially by leinsterlion. Munster are still the better team given their record in the history of the heineken cup but leinster destroyed them on the day and deserved the win. But still need to understand that munster are modest, not arrogant and are one of the best rugby teams in European rugby, proven time and again
