Perpignan upset Stade Francais at home in Paris
A Top 14 match in Paris is like a Test match anywhere else in the world. It's treated as a huge spectacle and when watching the start of this clip, you'd think you were watching a World Cup Final, not just another league game between Stade Francais and Perpignan.
It's what makes the Top 14 so great to watch, as while other tournaments around the world struggle with attendances, the French continue to get out there and support their sides by the masses. This match had 77 000 people in attendance at the Stade De France.
Perpignan upset hosts Stade Francais 20-14, with great tries by Maxime Mermoz and Jerome Porical, who got a personal tally of 15 points. This was despite the home side scoring first through a nice move and try to Hugo Southwell.
In the second half the lead changed hands a few time, as Julien Dupuy kept his side in the match with two penalties, but Porical came back and landed the killer blow with his second try after great lead up play by Henry Tuilagi and Florian Cazenave.
Stade did however pick up a bonus point, and had a great chance at snatching the win near the end, but they unfortunately dropped the ball after a promising attack contributed to a tense finish.

Looks like a good show for the crowd.
Stade have slipped off the pace a bit this year though!

That last tackle was high, should have been a penulty, dupuy was furious! and why was the english guy calling him dupu?
By Jonno, at October 30, 2009 4:00 pm
indeed it seemed like a very nice game all the way untill the end.
But i believe Stade Francais have reasons to be upset about the referee in the last minut...
definitly high tackle IMO...

Oh and that english guy has no idea whatsoever how french names are pronounced AND thinks the perpignan 9 is Durand whereas it was young Florian Cazenave...
Great professionalism there mate

normally dont criticise - but crap defence here all over the place
at 3 minutes - the 8 ( who is quoted as Tuilangi ) is on the ground and should have released - but is allowed to throw leading to a try

Canterbury would whoop both of those teams
By Shazaaam, at October 30, 2009 5:20 pm

Yeah Olli, he got a few players names wrong. That wasn't Oelschig at the end either.
And Jamestheconvict, you normally dont criticise? :)
By Greiffel, at October 30, 2009 5:25 pm
Cazenave was very impressive I thought being that young... (and yes the commentator made the error but they kinda look alike).
Poor defense on the fringe from Gasnier, he's learned a lot but has yet to improve on all the aspects in XV rugby...
By jay, at October 30, 2009 5:27 pm
wasnt a defensive kick from beauxis but from southwell dude
By Anonymous, at October 30, 2009 5:29 pm
@ jamestheconvict bringing the good old bad defense pointless debate.
Those are highlights that only show tries, and tries don't happen when the defense does its job well.
You could say that about all the highlights and tries compilations on that site...
And please don't start saying you never criticise and then say crap like that!

As far as domestic leagues are concered, France and RSA will bear the flags for years to come.
By vinniechan, at October 30, 2009 6:03 pm
who on earth is depoo? of course its dupuy but he calls him depoo one moment and then 10 seconds later pronounces it right. idiot
By Anonymous, at October 30, 2009 6:05 pm
alright dave!
By Anonymous, at October 30, 2009 6:06 pm
That first try was amazing!
By Anonymous, at October 30, 2009 6:27 pm
Dupuy better check himself; you can't get in the ref's face and shout like that. Lucky for him the match was over, or I'd expect he'd be penalized for that silly crap. This ain't football, my friend.
By falafel, at October 30, 2009 6:33 pm
First two tries are forward passes. Well played Perp though.

77,000 ppl for a club game. V impressive. No wonder they don't bother tooo much about the H Cup.
By mise, at October 30, 2009 7:11 pm
they only get 77000 at a match because they give the tickets away cheaply, stade and alot of other french clubs are in massive debt, so to say that there its was like a world cup final? if any club spent the amount that they've spent in recent years well they'd have the same attendence!

porical deserve in french team against south africa.
By hasif, at October 31, 2009 9:08 am
"they only get 77000 at a match because they give the tickets away cheaply" - on the day, the cheapest was €25. It was my first time in the Stade de France, and I have to say it was an amazing spectacle - great rugby and the sideshows (dancers, fireworks) make it great value and entertainment for everyone.
Perpignan's defense was extremely impressive.
By Blegh, at October 31, 2009 11:13 am
Can anyone explain to me why the player who scores at aound 2.20 is not offside when he receives the ball?
By Anonymous, at October 31, 2009 2:14 pm
Played onside when the man who received the kick ran (just) ahead of him.
By Boyo, at October 31, 2009 11:30 pm
Greiffel and Oli - i think you misunderstand
i like the Top 14 - its normally great - but that defense was shite and you know it - SF looked like they didnt care
By jamestheconvict, at November 01, 2009 8:19 am
great match!!!
just an after though, but i noticed how many of the players were screaming at the ref all the time, poor repect shown for the offical...
By Anonymous, at November 01, 2009 11:47 am
Nice game indeed.
Many good things about that show for french rugby : I'm talking about their "fond de jeu", of course.
(We should all be talking about that).
To Falafel :
Concerning "Dupuy's shout" : He shouts, that's right. But he is not saynig any wrong about the ref. Just telling him (quite high) he's not agree with his decision : (saying) "not right, not right, they should be penelized". So what ? What's wrong, considering the moment and the meanning of the game. (La belle affaire ! ).
Learn more about football and, perhaps, rugby will be your new ground.
