Looking back at the November Tests 2008

Today the international Test seasons kicks off once again as England face Australia, and Wales host the All Blacks. We'll take a look back to this time last year with this great compilation from the November Tests in 2008.

Each year the best of the Southern Hemisphere heads up North to take on the best on offer. This year, Argentina, Fiji, and Samoa will also be touring, which makes for an interesting few weeks.

It was a Grand Slam winning tour for the All Blacks last year, who beat all before them once again, following on from the success of 2005. This year they'll be looking to go unbeaten too, with a few new players in the line up that will be out to grab the opportunity.

Australia are hoping for a Grand Slam success this year, the first since 1984. They already beat Gloucester, and today go up against the team they lost to in the 2003 World Cup final, England.

The Springboks play three Tests, with France, Italy and Ireland all looking to knock them off their perch. They had a bit of a set back last night though, as their second stringers lost to a pumped up Leicester Tigers side. We'll have highlights of that soon.

This video is quite simply a compilation of some of the more memorable moments from last year. Anyone care to place their predictions for what's going to happen this time around?

We'll have all the best moments from all the biggest matches, right here on RD over the next few weeks. Keep stopping by.

  • Alun Wyn should of just run like hell... :(

By Anonymous David, at November 07, 2009 8:18 pm

  • All the northern hemisphere teams were so poor last year that this video could have been condensed into just that last try really. What a good try it was though!

I can't wait for the next set of matches. France vs NZ and Ireland vs Australia. I'm salivating at the thought.

By Anonymous Kearney for tests, at November 07, 2009 9:00 pm

  • im a kiwi my girlfriends welsh,so my loyaltie shifted to wales. was hopeing wales cud do it aganst all blacks but they cudn´t. i do think the gap is closeing between north and south. france vs south africa gunna be a good game.if france forwards go on the rampage and there backs get some god ball, south africa gunna be in for a fight. and i woundn´t put it past the frenchies stickn it too the AB´s.ireland got a strong team too and be looking at gettn some pay back aganst SA,but SA are the best in world and looking at proveing that, they playing some good footy at moment except aganst tigers.england missing too many players, but with jonny back they be looking at playing 10man rugby.
and for the convicts(aus) well who cares!! gunna be some good footy!!

By Blogger Unknown, at November 07, 2009 9:09 pm

  • Ahahaa, just had to show Ali Williams in the Haka, right?

Great video, too. Great seeing all that's happened in a year - wasn't Kearney still playing primarily on the wing this time last year? I've got nothing but respect for Geordan Murphy, so while I hate to see him go, I'm glad Kearney is at fullback now.

And that Wales try was definitely the try of last year's autumn tests.

Right now, I'm just pissed that we in the USA can't get our act together to have more autumn internationals - what, we're playing Uruguay and that's about it? Yeah, that's how we'll get better: a half-dozen test matches a year....

By Anonymous mendes, at November 07, 2009 9:42 pm

  • Ali williams looks hilarious.

    France to beat SA!
Aus to get the Grand slam.

who cares about the sheep shaggers.

  • Is there anything that is legitimate online that shows the positions of rugby teams round the world? (i mean like where they stand...?)

Only cos i dont really know where to look, although an interesting thing i clicked on from the telegraph labelled 'Top 20 Rugby Union websites' (i clicked on it, without reading the full title thinking ooo top 20 rugby...) buuuut it has revealed Rugbydump as number 1!!! written 17 sept 2009, so please forgive me if this is common knowledge but i only just found out...

Not that i was massively surprised, but well done RD

  • Ah, bollocks...i forgot to add my name ^^^^^^ No.7

if anyone could get back to me, if they know of a table and standings of world rankings in the rugby world.... that would be great thanks

  • 'Another round of NH-smashing eh SH'rs? Let's go!'

Yeh it was awesome when NZ smashed Wales 19-12 wasn't it, i mean Wales team should all retire they obviously cant play for shit after being smashed!!!

Anyway, Well done to wales for almost doing it, shame they didnt make good some oppurtunities, but hey thats the way the game goes.

Nothing taken away from NZ, they got the result and played well. Congrats

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 07, 2009 11:01 pm

  • No. 7 the IRB website has the international rankings, that's irb.com. ercrugby.com has the heineken cup rankings in it somewhere too. I don't know about the super 14 or anything, if they even have rankings.

  • y is it 3 nil during Haka at start ?

By Anonymous johnthereliable, at November 08, 2009 8:55 am

  • WTF, that video showed like 3 SH tries, the rest was just 7 mins of NH trying to break us kiwis line.

Aye, if you dint forget the SH IRB rankengs are 1. SA 2. NZ and 3. AUSSIE

yous guys think you can take us kiwis? u cant!!!!! expect some more beat downs aye

By Anonymous Nz Marshall, at November 08, 2009 9:45 am

  • To NZ Marshall, ^^

"WTF, that video showed like 3 SH tries, the rest was just 7 mins of NH trying to break us kiwis line."

The very first piece of match footage shows Lee Byrne cutting through the New Zealand line... BOOM!

THEN the first FOUR tries shown are from SH sides, NZ, RSA, AUS and ARG in that order. In total this video shows 12 SH tries and 8 NH tries, yet again... BOOM! Learn to count.

Are u sure u watched this video properly? They must make contact lenses differently down there.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 10:37 am

  • that last try was awsome.
can we get another big hits compilation after the AI's please, coz just the england australia game last night was full of them. and no doubt more to come.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 11:18 am

  • aye smarty pants the majority of the video was NH players trying to score the only reason lesser tries were shown was cause not one team scored againzt the ABs last year eoyt aye

get ova urself dude, we dont have time for your immaturity

SH is greater than the NH dont try and argue with me, tsk tsk. all i have to do is haul out those record books aye i mean some teams like ireland have neva even beaten us b4.

By Anonymous Nz Marshall, at November 08, 2009 11:50 am

  • ah lee byrne. get well soon!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 12:20 pm

  • ireland should rip auzzies apart we're class this year to all the S.H. people and well South Africa will be close but 19-17 to ireland

    By Anonymous ;], at November 08, 2009 1:20 pm

  • thanks nathan

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 1:22 pm

  • We were class this year but Ireland havent played together since the Wales GS decider so we could be rusty.Still think we will beat the Aussies(they wernt very convincing against England) but im not too confident of beating SA.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 1:43 pm

  • ;] - you may want to change your name to :( after SA thrash you guys!!! It aint gana happen!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 5:17 pm

  • To be honest as a die-heart BOK fan, our weakest link is our crazy coach, so I'm not gana say anything until I see what team he has selected before each match. Afterall you never know with Div what he might do next...tutu's and all!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE SH TEAMS ANYWAY!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 5:20 pm

  • To the anon above, I hear you my friend - the only good thing we can draw from having a crazy coach like him is the fact that if the whole of SA don't even know what he is gana do next then how the hell can the opposition coach?!? What can I say i'm ever the optimist! GO THE BOKS!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 5:26 pm

  • 'y is it 3 nil during Haka at start ?'

Wales got a 3point head start on NZ because of the stand-off at haka time!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 5:33 pm

  • 'y is it 3 nil during Haka at start ?'

I think it was a replay of the action...you know how in games they sometimes show something from ages ago in a slow part of the game....i could be wrong.

NZ marshall with the NH vs SH crap again...seriously if you want to get this whole the NH is just one big team and the SH is one big team crap, then do i have to mention france? worldcup 2007. 2003 Aus beat NZ and then Eng beat Aus....i mean, yes you have the power but you havent won much that counts....

I mean from where i stand it looks like South africa is the only team that has much claim to fame in the SH

    By Anonymous No.7, at November 08, 2009 5:43 pm

  • Enjoyed the two bok tries ( I know I'm biased!) also enjoyed the welsh try though - good team work! some good stuff RD keep it up!
Wish the boks were playing all of the North on this end of year tour

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 6:39 pm

  • @no. 7: RWC titles till now: SA 2, Aus 2, NZ 1 - Eng 1

that's 5 out of 6 for the SH teams...

and to most of the comments above: i really don't get it why any other than saffas or ausies should ask a new zealander "how many world cups have you won again?" - because then i always gotta answer: "just as many as you my english friend" ;)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 08, 2009 10:55 pm

  • To the anon above, it wasnt a case of me mocking the NZ's its a case of me saying that whilst NZ is involved in this NH SH bullshit, they havent really done an awful lot......and so...yeh, they won one and so did Eng, doesnt that mean they are on the same level?

    By Anonymous No.7, at November 08, 2009 11:49 pm

  • Stupid question, but which country's PAC?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 09, 2009 8:44 am

  • what's the name of the song?

By Anonymous leftside, at November 09, 2009 2:15 pm

  • I would have enjoyed that if it were not for the lack of Scotland clips...so I am resigned to say it was utterly shit.
I assume it was made my a Welsh person...lol.
Ur let off cos everyone feels sorry for you, it must suck to Welsh...rugby is all u have. Must be shit to be Welsh! Weak national identity, England's little bitch, and stuck with a ridiculous accent.

By Anonymous smellurmaw, at November 09, 2009 2:48 pm

  • 'Stupid question, but which country's PAC?'

Dont worry, i thought the same then i remembered Pacific Islanders i think!

By Anonymous Vic, at November 09, 2009 3:13 pm

  • I follow rugby al over the world including club games and anyone who is doing the same will know that there is about 3 teams back in SA that can easily beat the upcoming boks that played against Leicster, most of the upcoming boks wil not play a test match before 2012 and the rest will never play again, and the only way the Springbok team will lose is if they play against themselves. No denying France and Ireland are good and it will be tough but not one of them can beat the All Blacks 3 times in a row home and away and the way the Boks played this season it is unlikely for them to loose!

By Blogger Unknown, at November 11, 2009 10:16 am

  • To the above, I agree with you completely and anyone who knows anything about rugby would to. And this coming from a french fan ( although I would like us to beat you guys on Fri, I just don't see that happening - SA rugby is just to strong at this time, forget game again tigers and the one in brisbane, this bok side is really really great!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 12, 2009 12:29 am

  • Ha glad to see the quotas are on this site instead of on the rugby pitch wearing the bok jumper - lets keep it that way div!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at November 12, 2009 12:32 am

  • Love that Jacque fourie try, and I was in the stands right there in that corner screaming my little bok heart out!! GO THE BOKS FOR THIS WEEKEND!!
