Great Munster try finished by Doug Howlett

Munster powered their way into a seventh Heineken Cup semi-final on the weekend, with a devastating display of rugby that brushed aside Guinness Premiership leaders Gloucester.

In the second half Munster piled on the pressure, and some hurried passing by the Gloucester men resulted in a loose ball that was snatched up and flung wide to All Black legend Doug Howlett, who raced away before passing inside to fullback Hurley, who then put an inch perfect kick ahead for Howlett to run onto and score.

The nail in the coffin, and a great display of counter attacking finishing, showing just how dangerous the Munster outside backs can be with turnover ball.

Doug Howlett smashes a Wasp

When it's as windy, rainy and just plain miserable as it was when Munster hosted Wasps at Thomond Park on Saturday afternoon, it's very difficult for star wingers to shine in the wet conditions.

Doug Howlett is different though. Munster's new signing is always looking for work, which has become a trademark of his game. Not only that, he gives his all in everything he does, as seen here by this fantastic chase to flatten young Wasps wing David Doherty as he catches the ball.

Reminds me of Howlett dealing with the pesky Earl Rose last season. This hit was similar in stature, but was most impressive for the way that Howlett chased so hard and timed the tackle perfectly, keeping it legal all the while.

Watch how Doherty actually bounces off Howlett he got hit so solidly. Great stuff Dougie. It just goes to show that if you're a wing who isn't getting any quality ball, or the conditions aren't suited to you, you can still make an impact.

Doug Howlett smashes Earl Rose

In this years Super 14 match between the Blues and the Lions, Doug Howlett and Earl Rose had somewhat of a sideshow going on, with a number of clashes. The first of which was a bit of a scuffle and supposed quick headbutt by Rose on Howlett.

Dougie Howlett sure put him in his place though, with two great tackles, the second of which shown here is an absolute monster.

Doug Howlett stamps on Adi Jacobs

This is taken from the first semi-final of the 2007 Super 14, played on Saturday. The Blues, from NZ, took a visit to the Durban 'Shark Tank' in South Africa to face the Sharks.

Doug Howlett's boot unintentionally caught Adi Jacobs in the face, splitting him right open. Gory to say the least.
